Turn off Traction Control in 4HI??

Hey all, i just took delivery of a new 2010 DC Sport 4x4 last week and immediately took it out on a few trails to "break it in". This is my first 4wd truck and I noticed that when I switch over to 4Hi I can no longer disable my traction control. It got really annoying sometimes when I wanted to have a little fun and it kept cutting power from me and adding the breaks to keep the tires from spinning.
Is this normal for these new vehicles not to allow you to disable the traction control in 4Hi or is there a way to fix this? Any input would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!

 

you have to be completely stopped and hold the button down for 3-4 seconds to turn it completely off.
that's how it is in my 09.
1 push and it turns 2 lights on.
push and hold, both come on and then 1 turns off. and the wheels can spin as much as you want with out the traction control kicking in.

The traction control doesn't cut throttle in 4H, unless you are skidding. It's transfering torque in a similar manner to having limited slip differentials. It's not trying to stop the spinning, it is trying to ensure all tires are spinning at the same speed. But if you're trying powerslides, you would want it off. If you're given'er, and trying to not get stuck, leave it on.....

 

rwilso03 did that work for you? coming to a complete stop and holding the button for 3-4 seconds?

 

Yup i ran into the same thing last night. We rarely get snow so i was out trying to play around a bit and was totally denied by the traction control. Every time i started sliding it would apply the brakes and drop the throttle which also sounds really nasty. I thought i broke something the first time it did it. Will definitely have to try this method out.

 

If u say say i don't claim to be any kind of expert. Felt like it though.

 

um im pretty sure trac shuts power to throttle off in the 2011's when in 4wd.. my truck was buried today after the snow storm and i tried just flooring it to get out of the snow bank and it kept on making that noise and rpms werent revving up. pissed me off i couldnt figure out how to shut the fckin thing off.

 

There's a little book in your glovebox you may find helpful.

 

ive read it. idk, whats the noise that sounds like ABS then? and why wont it let the RPMs wind up?
what do you guys think of that? it sounds like a pain in the ass, would the truck be better without it you think?

 

X2 sounds like something else to break with all those noises

 

I'm thinking about ripping that crap out and installing arb locker. Can the Arb kit be modified to control both axles

Yea I just dont like all them buzzers and sirens see I'm old school before the taco I had a 90 wrangler yj with dual lockers and leaf springs on all four corners 35" tires that thing was unstoppable should not have sold it

so if youre in 4wd, you cannot shut traction control off, that makes the truck a fucking piece of shit.

 

I am a new owner of a 2011 Tacoma 4x4 with the same traction control, and the first day I took delivery we got hit with a big snowstrom and the roads were slippery and not plowed, and I was amazed how great the traction was in 2 wheel drive, I didn't touch any of the traction control buttons or anything and it didn't slip a wheel.
In the past I always owned full size trucks and they would slide around in 2 wheel drive under the same conditions where I had to drive around in 4x4 all the time.
I did play with the 4x4 off and on, but really didn't need it, another good thing about the Toyota 4x4 it goes in quickly unlike my past full size Ford I had to wait for the 4x4 to enguage.
