Next Gen Tacoma? What do you want to see?

I suspect a next generation Tacoma is hopefully in the works for sometime within the next few years considering they just came out with a redesigned 4runner.

So my question for you is what do you want to see for the next generation Tacoma? What would you do to improve the current truck? Is the size of this truck ok or would you like it to be compact once again?

I really wish they had a truck that had the width of the '95 to '04 Tacoma's but they had a crew cab long box (6'). A little bit narrower for off the beaten path going down the skinny roads, and for parking, but the ultimate utility.

Engines I'd like to see a pepped up 2.7 4 cylinder with dual variable valve timing offered with the same transsmission options as the V6 (5 speed auto/6 speed manual). Put this engine in the entire line up (reg cab/extended cab/double cab) including 4x4 configurations. Hopefully something that can produce 175-180 HP and 185-190 foot pounds of torque and would offer decent power enough to tow up to 3500 pounds comfortably, and with outstanding fuel economy for a 4000 pound truck. V6 wise, I would imagine the V6 offered in the 2010 4runner would be what is offered that way.

Options wise, the way the current generation of trucks is offered, is you can't get all the good quality towing equipment, without getting all the creature comforts first. For example, in Canada, they offer you the base, the SR5 and the TRD offorad/sport models. The TRD Offroad/Sport models offer some important towing upgrades for the V6 such as auto tranny cooler, engine oil cooler, heavier duty alternator, etc, plus fog lights, and the bed outlet. But you HAVE to get the SR5 package included as part of this (TRD) package to get these mechanical upgrades to tow more. I'd like to see them give you the option to have the base model truck with the mechanical upgrades I just listed for the guy who maybe tows but doesn't want, or need to pay for all these creature comforts. Some guys don't want to pay for power windows or locks as it's just more to go wrong, but they do tow and these towing accessories are important for longetivity and functionality.

Next - if they are going to offer a TRD "Off-road" package, offer it with some real tires, not these "raised white letter" knock offs. BFG All Terrains.

More powerful V6 (no need for a V8 in these) and at some point a diesel.

a turbo deisel engine. and a 6th gear in the spd models thats better suited for highway driving so the manuals will get better gas mileage than the autos (like most cars)

Heated Seats w/ leather, preferably black color
Better tires, the stock tires suck
Nav
The V6 engine is fine, maybe just a lil bit more power out of it
Interior carpet and door panels available in black? The light gray gets dirty too fast
an option for factory moon roof

Let's see:

-Back to 1st gen size
-4 cylinder turbodiesel, old school without the recent emissions crap (wishful thinking)
-Manual T-case
-Better manual trans design (if 6 spd).
-2lo option
-Fix the rust prone frame issues and go to a boxed/gussoted frame.
-more room in the fender wells
-offer vinyl floor

Do not want:
-GM/Ford style powered/automatic interior crap, automatic headlights, etc
-Body to get bloated even more

Basically I want toyota to offer a utility model and overbuild the crap out of the mechanical parts. Never going to happen. Americans would rather be comfortable and have everything done for them other than pressing the accelerator and steering than have a rock-solid vehicle.

Winter Package Option: Heated mirrors, Heated seats
Power sliding window for the back of double cabs.
Side window defrost. I don't really like how it uses the regular side one. I don't think it get the window very good.
Diesel Option.
4wd switch light up.
Locking tailgate standard. If the pop&lock is so cheap then why can't toyota just put them in for us.
