Want to clean my engine etc

Hello I'm getting a used 2007 Tacoma Saturday. I would like to clean under the hood as the previous owner didn't really keep it clean and it's dusty. What should I use exactly to do the job. Yes I know a rag lol. Thanks.

 

Small soap and water mix, don't spray really hard under there with a hose and keep the hose moving.

 

I just sprayed some all purpose cleaner around and hosed it off. Came out nice and clean.

 

Same here since i wash the truck every other day i just wipe off with a damp towel.

 

This should be posted in the detailing section, but here ya go! I detail on the side and have been doing this method for years. If you want to see my results shoot me a PM with your e-mail and I will send them over.

How to clean and shine the engine bay!​

1. Let engine warm up. This loosens up the grime. Turn engine off (I do this …however inexperienced people I do not recommend it as you could crack the block)
2. Spray engine with degreaser. I use Purple Power full strength. Lightly spray bay with water to sud up degreaser.
3. Agitate all areas with a wheel brush. This includes under the hood!
4. Let sit for 5 minutes.
5. Using a lower powered pressure washer, blast the bay. Pressure washers use 75% air making it safer than a hose.
6. Once rinsed, spray bay down with Armor All tire foam. Shut hood and crank vehicle. This is why you do the engine first. OVERSPRAY!
7. Let vehicle run for about 15-20 minutes while washing it. I call this the baking process. The heat will evaporate all water and leave a nice matte shine behind.
8. Open hood and wipe down with MF mitt or towel.

Thanks man but that seems a little complicated. Can't I just buy some stuff and use a rag to wipe it down. I live in an apartment complex and the hose thing gonna be tough lol

 

Not really. How far does your family, friend, etc live to you? Do it at there house. It takes no time at all. I thought it was a long process, but now I do mine ever 3 mos. it stays so clean and it take me less than 20 mins.

 

i bought an '06, and i tackled the motor compartment the easy way. i have a soft brush that is typically used for wheels. with very gentle water pressure, i just gently hose and brush away. i cleaned everything, under the hood and everything. my truck has zero oil leaks and the greasy grime is really at a minimum. water and some mechanical brushing took care of everything. why use a degreaser if there isnt any grease?

 

Armor All Wipes

 

i hate that fry your eggs shiney look. plus one trip into the backwoods, and armor all attracts more dust/dirt.

 

i hate that stuff. my buddy was bragging about the detail he got on his truck, well the inside got wiped down w/ armor all and it was all shiny and greasy...just terrible.

 

i know you can go to some dealers and for like 40 bucks they will steam clean your engine and make it look spotless

 

I use the same method as dktaco. Except I spray my bay after it's clean with CD-2 Engine Detailer. Spray on, run engine for 10 minutes, wipe off any excess, and you're done. Looks brand new. You can get CD-2 at Autozone. wmb67
