Oil Filter mess? on First oil change.
Well I did finally do my first oil change, which included the FUMOTO drain valve, AMSOIL synthetic oil and their brand filter. BUT... I almost mess it all when removing the oil filter... any tips to avoid the mess on my second oppotunity?
What kind of mess? the oil filter is at the top and when removing it will be oil inside it... probably it will be a little bit more waiting time to have it fully drain but does this will be the solution? Thanks.

hey vega.....just let it drain on out for a little bit, then take the small black nipple cover from off the side of the filter housing, and place a small cup or bottle under the nipple ,so when you remove the filter, the little bit of oil left will drain into the cup or bottle.........problem solved.

I can tell you I wait about 5 minutes after I saw the last small drops from the oil pan and I tought it will be all, also I was kind of slow and sure of there was not anything else in the oil filter and...
oh surprise!, no more than two or three drops went out of that scoop that surronds the oil filter area, that was really save me from a bigger mess. Thanks I will take that in consideration for next time.

I remove the rubber cap and put on a piece of rubber tubing that drains to my oil drain pan. Any oil that spills from the oil filter into the catch area will drain into the pan.

I haven't changed mine myself yet but i have already thought about what to do about hte excess oil in the filter. my solultion is to get a shop towel or large rag and bunch it up under the filter. it should catch most of the leaking oil.... i assume..... guess i'll find out when i actually change my own oil.

And add to that a fast very fast unscrew of the oil filter, or as recommended a slow damn slow and a long waiting time to let the oil filter drain by it self.

Pop a hole
What would happen if you pop a hole in the top of the filter? (to let air in)

That is a good idea. on a Sienna the oil filter is at the front of the engine, and to "flush" the oil (most of it) from the engine's interior I place a blower (plastic bed inflator -for outdoors use-) at the engine's top and probably you can imagine how much more oil was drained doing this. Well, once a hole in the oil filter is done I can do the same... BUT only risk (BIG RISK) is to have some debris inside the engine...

the oil would drain from the filter a bit quicker.
