Water on Carpet

So there was a lot of water in Norfolk, VA last week. Unfortunately, my Tacoma got a little bit of brackish flood water on the carpet- water was up to the doors. Recommendations for getting rid of this nasty stuff other than shampooing? Maybe some steam cleaning? Thoughts?

 

You should just have your insurance company deal with it. They might even replace the carpet for you.

 

not enough water to warrant insurance deductable. really the only portion is the rear driverside carpet (lowest point of the truck in the street somehow).

 

there is a place on Military highway....by Indian River I believe that can clean it.

 

pull it out of the truck and dry underneath!

 

You don't have to completely pull it off but get the floor panels off and a good carpet cleaner and wet/dry vac should do it. You want to make sure the underneath gets completly dry or you can develop mold or it could be a good time to pull it off and apply some sound deadning/fatmat/dynamat, etc...

 

Please be careful with the brackish water, it can be as bad as salt water on your truck. I lived in Norfolk, right off the Lafayette River 2 years ago when we had the two nor-easters back to back and I had water come up to the doors in my Isuzu Trooper. It ran fine for 2 weeks, then the windows started rolling themselves down, radio was playing static when the keys were not in the car, lights would turn themselves on and off.. I eventually disconnected the battery so it would stop, when the insurance adjuster came out the truck was completely dead, they totaled it.

Personally, I would call the insurance.

Yep- sucks. I called State Farm and let them know the situation, just in case I need to claim anything later on down the road. Also, I imagine I can clean it pretty well for under my $500 deductable. I did a serious detail on the outside/underbody of the truck a few days back to combat that salt water.

Doc.SS- You have a name for that detail place on Military?

DriverSound- fatmat/dynomat prices??? you have a ball park $? could be a great opportunity for that.

 

That sucks...we got 10.5" of salt waterr in the Fire Station I am assigned to in Hampton...managed to get the Taco to higher ground before the flood. Went out on a rescue call and got back to the station to find the tide was up to the bottom part of my rim in the parking lot. Close call!!! Ended up with just over 2' in the parking lot.

 

$90 shipped. Enough to do all four doors and back seat on a DC.

Update. Called Toyota to see what they would charge- $750 for just the dampening jute they use under the carpet. Called State Farm. Claim is in the works. Nothing like $500 deductable! Kind of hoping there is something else wrong so I at least feel like I'm getting my money's worth.

obxfishn- you got lucky. My roommate's Audi A6 AllRoad is the one pictured above. Other roommate drives a G35 Coupe- both are totaled. I guess I can't complain too much.

 

This wouldn't have happened at all with a lift! You might want to add that later also.

 

Honestly. Take out your entire interior. It doesn't take more than an hour. All you need is a 10mm and a 12mm (i think the seat belts are 12) socket. Let everything dryout, steam clean/shampoo the carpet and you will be good to go.

You will also have the security of knowing that is was done correctly (BY YOU!)
