I've traveled all over Central America & Australia. Their version of Tacoma is the Hilux, which comes with optional turbo diesel!! The 1984-95 4x4 Hilux came with diesel engines and straight front axles. If my 06' Taco had these 2 options, I'd say its the best damn truck period. Comments

It would be nice, but out stupid EPA won't allow it...since when did big Government do anything for anyone but themselves?

Same here if my truck had a turbo diesel I would be stoked!

    Hmmm.

    Looks wise: Tacoma > Hilux

    Performance: Tacoma < Hilux

    But sick nonetheless!

I chose Hilux solely due to the available diesel.

    I couldn't agree more.

Hilux looks like a Subaru to me, but it is an absolute tank and is basically indestructible. Combine Tacoma looks with Hilux build quality + diesel, I'll take one.

I drive a Hilux daily here in Afghanistan and I can honestly say that it isnt even on the same level as the Tacoma. The quality of the truck is just poor. The diesel is nice cause you can run forever on a tank of fuel but it is cumbersome starting up on cold mornings. I like the older body style Hiluxes.

The black one (from the photos) with the ARB bumper/snorkel & lift doesn't look like a Subaru. That one in particular is badass!

Looks: Tacoma looks way better IMHO. Hilux looks like a Nissan Frontier.

I love the old Hilux Diesel I was driving back in 1996.
