2009 Tacoma and RUST

I looked under my 2009 Tacoma and notice that there is rust on the iron that holds the muffler. I know ...I know. IRON rusts. But you would think that a brand new truck would resist it a bit. Anyone else see this ??

Yes. That is going to happen.

After major excursions I do get under my truck and clean up spots with a wire brush, wipe them down and spray paint.

 

Depending on the environment and weather, bare cast iron can rust overnight.

Look at your brake discs after they've been sitting undriven for a day or two...

 

Sounds like normal surface rust. I just recently got my truck undercoated for added protection. Very pleased at how it turned out. Really great job by a member here (Fortech).
I'd recommened Krown undercoating.

 

toyota sucks and have not figured out to coat their shit better. i guess they like buying trucks back in 10 years at 150%.

 

Hit it with some Ospho, then spray bomb it.

 

Like others, I just climb under mine about twice a year with a wire brush and a can of rustoleum flat black...

 

Try Fluid Film NAS and use a compressor and spray gun to coat the entire frame and underbody. This stuff works. Good luck.

 

Dammit! Everyone who buys a new vehicle should be willing to crawl under it with a wire brush and spray bomb twice a year! Your just a lazy complainer who doesn't take care of his vehicle!
(I had to say it before one of the brand loyalist beat me to it. Actually it's really gay....Toyota has got to solve this crap)

 

it kills me to see rust on a vehicle, especially when its new. Damn corrosion cells!

 

Toyota knows how to paint frames, take a look at any of their Land Cruisers I have 94 and that thing has few millimeters of paint with multiple coatings. Frame for Tacoma was made by DANA using rattle can to do painting.

 

ive been driving toyota pick ups for 15 years and 5 toyota trucks later.i think im pretty loyal until my 08. i lived with the rotting beds on my 88 and 86. i cant live with shitty rotting frames. so sad. i agree toyota has to do something about these besides giving us 0% interest for 5 years on a fucking prius.
