Who actually uses their V6 Tacoma as the truck it's supposed to be?

It comes from having a friend who always gets cars that need a shit load of work, gets some of that work done, and trades them for something different.

thats a great idea. you never can get bored with a car then. I always wish i knew how to do more of that work myself. it could even be a great sidejob for anyone. you can make a decent penny doing that if you enjoy it.

Yeah, unfortunately it always leads to
  • trips to the junk yard
  • nuts n bolts runs
  • trips to the store for torch gas, fluids, different tools, etc
  • broken tools
  • numb fingers
It's 12F here with 5" of snow. Neither of our barns is insulated or heated. We use a propane salamander heater, and try to use my barn. His has a dirt floor, water runs in, and snow melts off the truck inside so it turns to mud quickly.

He's the mechanic, but I'm the one with air tools, socket sets, bottle jack, welder, chop saw, and more tools.

The Taco is a comfort ride. I have never lowered the windows. The real work is done by a 1974 360 Power Wagon that puts out 375 hp. at the wheels. And a 1962 GMC and the pre war Oliver tractor.
The law here classifies it as a farm truck.
I have plowed snow with it. It just quits. It does not stall but it won`t continue. I did not spin a wheel.
The super charger will fix that.

For now, I just go back and forth to work, but I will be towing a jonboat with it, pulling frontier, silverado, f150 etc. owners out of snow banks. Getting to those hard to reach fishin spots. You know, usual stuff.

Haven't got to test this truck or the rear leafs yet. But will shortly. Trailer to the pretty places for riding and camping. The wife is a lot more pleasant when we travel in the truck and ride or whatever once there.

I use mine for what I bought it for: a daily driver regardless of gas costs, and hauling/towing whatever I need to haul or tow. I didn't have a set purpose in mind when I bought my Tacoma other than having the ability to do whatever I needed to do and having the vehicle to do it with. I don't tow a camper trailer or any kind of other trailer on a regular basis, but I know I can if I need to. I don't haul a heavy or over sized load in the bed, but I can if I needed to. For the most part I drive my Tacoma back and forth to work (39 miles daily R/T) and on trips (pleasure and business) and it does exactly what I bought it to do. And on weekends when I need to hook up a trailer or haul a load in the bed then I have the vehicle to do it with.

Well I've just had it for a few weeks. So far I've went offroading in it the first day I got it home, filled up the bed to the rim with trash that needed to be taken to the dump. And I ALWAYS drive the bitch like I stole it. I think I'm driving the bitch the way it's supposed to be driven.

yeah.... mine are probably near max or over. I think the 3" lift makes it look worse. Rear is almost on the bumpstops, and front is jacked up 3" due to the lift. If I didn't have the lift it wouldn't look as bad.

I'd love to get a WD hitch, but $300 is a lot of money right now for something I've only done twice so far. If my buddy has me hauling cars more (ie, we get our own trailer) I'm definitely getting one o' them sumbitches!

Or we'll just make our own tow bar.

I use it to pull around farm implements (not tractors because ours are all too big >10,000lbs), but not constantly...only during the summer and deer season.

The '99 pictured felt like it was softer in the rear springs than this '08. It rode a little low in the rear loaded up. The '08 is not on the list for the TSB as yet and I have not actually towed the trailer with a load yet. Some of these threads suggest that the '08 three leaf issue has been beefed up and no longer a issue. We'll soon see ?

I tried to take care of it. But alas it was not to be.
Just from snow the plate is askew and there are marks.
It is now a user.
