I think the Dakota and 95 bronco I had were worse, ABSwise. On my Tacoma the ABS has only come on, once I push it to see how far it takes.

Just as long as I don't hit the gas too hard, it works fine, even in 2wd. But we haven't had a lot of snow so I don't know how it'll handle once we do get a foot soon. I almost got in a wreck today because a guy tried to cross the street even though he had the stop sign. I hit the curb pretty hard, and looking back I think I saw him hit the curb also, maybe even the guard making me think 'b*tch got what he deserved'

I find that traction and handling in 4wd are pretty good even with the shitty stock tires. 2wd isnt too bad once you get going (traction control helps a lot) but braking is definitely another story unless you're driving in thick, fresh snow.

My wife plowed through 4 inches of snow in the stock dunflops.... no problem in 4wd. Why would you even try in 2wd. This will be the first winter for my new BFG's... I can't wait, haven't had snow yet here on the Cape.

btw, I have none of the traction control stuff... Sport here. LSD only.

Weatherman thinks I'll even get a shot at driving in some snow on Friday way down here in the Houston,TX area. Won't that be an effin mess. Supposed to be middle of day so I'll get to work early, dry, then be trapped at work or have some crazy ass 30 mile ride home thru God only knows what kind of idiot action with my rwd mid tread AT tire 2WD no weight in back truck. Yeefuckinhaw! Only snow I wanna see is on vacation or postcards or North Pole.:D

We have a 2009 taco 4cyl 2 wheel drive. In most of the snow here the limited slip seems to get the job done. If it gets really bad I use fanbelts looped around the tires, then I can go most anywhere. Much better than chains!

All good to know. I have a DC and Michlelin AT2s so I will see with this first winter with a taco.

I put winter tires and wheels on it but I can't stomach the look of it so I going to put my summer wheels back on and just try to keep them clean.

If you have the TRD Sport you got a Mech LSD rear axle if its 05-08', look in the rearview... both wheels are spinning. You get more traction, but when it breaks loose it will fishtail easier than a typical open diff where only one wheel is spinning.

Put some wieght in the bed, go easy on the gas, or put in 4wd if you have stock tires. Or put a set of snowies on and its another world, even 2wd w/ Blizzaks goes just about anywhere till the snow is nearing a foot.

"...use fanbelts looped around the tires..."

Now that has to be one of the most original ideas I have come across in some time.

.......he is using underdrive pullys on them too.... ok , j/k

One thing to keep in mind is braking forces on the tire are about double than acceleration forces, think dry pavement 0-60 in 7 sec but 60-0 in 4 seconds. On the ice that means easy sliding when braking......if you have no traction, traction control has no ability to really do its job and you get that looong sllooow stop.

learned that on a 95 bronco, my 1st truck w ABS. Was going downhill leaving a ski resort, a shuttle bus comes out sliding from the right from a parking lot,he cant stop. I slow down but... nothing... oooh crap. I aim for the gap by a wall of snow on the left of the road, miss the snow wall and he misses me by maybe 1' . I stopped finally 100' or so later while he hit the bank at 5-10mph. I got lucky, but i was pissed I had to relearn something I thought I knew, I think technology cuts both ways and at the worst times.

as long as your wheels have slots in them all you do is hold the belt together , stick it through the slot then around the tire. I use 2 belts on each tire tying them together with some high tech bailing wire.

Lol!!:rain: keep that weather movin' up to northern NM!!! we'll take all the snow we can get! that way there will actually be snowmelt in the Rio Grande, and it might even make to mexico....and maybe i'd be able to go skiing without driving to colorado!!!
And life will be normal in TX! talk about a Charlie Foxtrot- when I-40 or I-10 gets hammered with an ice storm ... no thank you... i'll stay in the mountains where snow makes life more fun and driving on it is a daily event, not a natural disaster, with 18 wheelers flying all over the place!
    Good luck with that!!

Dude! Mine does the same thing on the same snow that yours does when you floor it. Got sand bags in it, the norm, I'm used to it now, but these things have quite a bit of torque and tend to break loose in the white stuff pretty easily. 4WD will take a bit off the rear wheels, so they don't get to much power. It's all fun, as long as you stay out of the ditch.

I've posted this before, but here's some evidence, when fishtail happens on snow/ice in 2WD.

How was your drive to work/school/coffee shop/etc. yesterday. Might have been a fun one.

Now on to my real question: "Snow Wheeling next storm?"

Hey Bobcat ~nice to finally see another Bozone Taco owner on here! I've got an 06 4x4 DC OR short bed. I slip and slide alot in the snow, even with sandbags over the axles and good tires. The shorter bed is really light, especially with the plastic liner so that's my thought on why so squirrely.

Lots of Tacos in town ~ we should see if we can get a mod meet going sometime...
