RPM on highway

Maybe it's just me and I'm sure plenty of you guys will say so but my RPM's at highway speed seem high. This is my first truck and I've always had Mustangs. At 60 mph I'm turning 2100-2200 rpm. I have a 6 cyl with 6 speed and maybe it's where it should be but when your going 75-80 on interstate it's awful high and not good on gas milage. Just wanted to know if all is well. Thanks

 

Pretty sure that's lower than mine... (5spd auto). What gear are you in at 75, 6th?

Note, my old g35 6speed ran about that as well in 6th...

 

Yeah at 75 in 6th I'm probably running 3000 rpm. Just seems high to me. Maybe just cause it's a truck and I'm not used to it

Well keep in mind they're geared more toward staying in the torque band instead of fuel efficency/hp.

 

I have the 6spd v6 and mine runs around 3k rpm at 75-80 mph. A little too high IMO. Not sure why toyota geared 6th that way seems like they should have geared it to better suit highway driving, it would definitely help the MPG ratings

 

My V6 6spd runs about 2500 at 70mph, so it seems you are right in range at 75-80. keeps me from speeding too much by watching the RPMs. would also like the 6th geared a bit better. My auto Ram V8 ran about 2K at the same speed.

 

That sounds high, my 5 spd manual is at 2400 @ 70mph odometer(true 65mph). If I'm not mistaken your 6spd auto would be around the same, maybe lower. 3000 on mine is 4th gear at the same 70mph on the odometer btw.

 

Toyota definently should have thought better about 6th gear for gas milage. If you gotta tow something use 5th but give milage a break with 6th

 

2350 rpm at 65
2500 rpm at 70
2650 rpm at 75

Our 6th is geared short. Great for towing, loaded up, and state/county hwy, but not fast interstates. The auto's 5th is turning 300 rpm less, hence its better mpg rating.

70 is about all I do on interstate, no tickets and get about 19.5 mpg in summer. Slowing down every 5 mph will net you an extra mpg. Can do 22 mpg kept at 55.

 

Compared to all of the other trucks I've had (inc Ford and Chevy) the revs are lower at that speed. Maybe not compared to a car, but compare like with like.

 

All is well....and that's the way these trucks are. I doubt you'll find many trucks that have a better rpm range at that speed/gear and still have towing, hauling, & torque.....

Although, a lot of other trucks have a tow/haul mode which puts the rpm band higher for towing. Atleast you have that option of choosing which you want to be in (auto trans).

yep.. the tsb actually helped my gas mileage... i used to run 2500 at 75 now i run 2100.

 

what tsb helped ur gas milage?

 

For a truck I have no complaints on the highway RPM's

 

My F-250 with the V10,6spd man.& 3.73 gears ,wife's former 99 durango,and my taco with v6 and 5spd auto all run about 2k rpm at 70 mph
