Doorsill protection

Anyone used 3m tape for this purpose??

 

They make plastic sill protectors for them. I had them on another truck and it was attached with 3M tape. They never came off........

The factory ones suck. They don't even cover the part of the sill that would wear first and that's the edge. There is an aftermarket set you can buy that covers more of the sill.

 

Thank you,yes I have seen the ones by avs,but my local retailer says they take 4-6 weeks,and suggested using 3m,just questioning whether anyone here had any experience with such?

 

i've thought about 3m ,and also about skate board tape.

if you use the skate board tape....would'nt that be the tony hawk mod?it should work good,you no its tough stuff and sticks very well.

when i had my 06....i bought some sill protectors(2 pack) at pepboys by auto ventshade, and cut them in half and trimmed them to fit. they were held on by 3m tape, and they stayed in place really good.

My truck came with the factory door sill protectors on all 4 door sills...they say Tacoma on them. I read where someone took a razor knife and a dremel and cut out the words before they stuck the protector to the sill for a custom look to where the trucks color showed through where the word "Tacoma" was.

 

I want wider protection than oem. ty

 

^ I definitely agree. Just get some of the thick 3M clear tape like they make the car bras out of

 

I put some 3M 8547 removable film on mine. Thick, tough, and leaves no residue if you have to replace it. Works good so far, but time will tell. I also put it on the kick plates to protect from hoof marks.

 

Skateboard tape might also be good for grip on step tubes/ sliders etc.......

 

I used spare 3m film I use on my bikes.looks perfect.

 

I thought i saw someone bought some from AVS (?) that covered the whole sill area.

Thought i saw pictures somewhere on here several months ago...

 

Look again because I got two different versions for my double cab from Toyota when I started sniffing around the part houses. The newer versions are just thick vinyl stickers with TACOMA on them, the other version is molded plastic that follows the contours and rolls over the sill edge for better protection. I have both sets but have yet to decide which I will install. I'll post both part #'s when I get the camera out...
