Thanks to the DIY section, I took the fronts off my 08 yesterday, traced the rounded edge onto paper, moved it up 4" and used that as a template to trace. Then used a dremel to cut and sanded the edge down. Very easy and looks MUCH better and shouldn't hit the ground anymore.

There's 3 screws and 3 plastic rivets each side which can be accessed by turning the steering wheel. I broke all but one rivet while removing them. Went to the parts store and got a bag of equivalent rivets for a couple bucks. No big deal. Those mudflaps looked pretty goofy to me at stock length. 4" off looks perfect to me.

I was thinking that the 4X4's and prerunners have the fender flares and the flaps might not fit on a base level access cab. I should probably sneak across the street and measure my neighbors. :spy:

I took a pair of trauma shears and cut about 3 inches off the flaps. Looks great, no more dragging, & cant even tell they were cut. Took a white crayon marked, cut, then sanded smooth. Alot less effort to fix than gripe...:D

I did a little trip to Sacramento today. I noticed at freeway speeds every 2nd generation’s front mud flaps are bending back ridiculously in the wind. Not only does this look stupid it makes me think that these front flaps can’t last long before they break. If you chop 4 or 5 inches of the front flaps does anyone know if they still bend back in the wind?

Has anyone else looked closely at the lower part of the doors? On my 08 reg cab 4x4 there is a textured material under the paint. I have seen this on other vehicles. It acts as a cushion under the paint, giving some flexibility to absorb impacts from road debris.
