Haha, that is my folks' place. My dad built it in 1992 (he's a concrete finisher by trade but is an excellent builder, too). It is a super sturdy house with a walkout basement and garage out back. They also own 30 acres around the house, too. Loved growing up in the mountains of West Virginia.

Meh, I thought the fact my dad built the place was a fun fact. It is cooler than my suburgatory. And he is the one that owns the Tacomas. :p

Wrecked my tacoma today. Hauling firewood down a dirt road and discovered that it was solid ice. The load of wood started pushing me and I had no choice other than hit the brakes and try to hit the ditch on the uphill side. The momentum of the wood kept me sliding down the hill. The trailer jack-knifed, passed me up and then yanked me over the bank with it. Pics will ensue tomorrow. A neighbor will be trying to pull me out with a D-7 cat.

Thanks OZ, you're bound to like the pictures. There really isn't significant damage that I'm aware of. My daughter and I climbed up the bank, I wasn't interested in assessing the damage, just getting home. Nevertheless; the fact that we didn't roll or get hurt is a miracle.

Thankfully not. Since we were sliding backward, the laws of physics prevented that. Not sure we'll be able to save the wood. It was a gorgeous cord of madrone. :(

While hauling a cord of madrone yesterday, we hit an icy stretch. The weight of the trailer started pushing us downhill, so I tried to make a run for the ditch on the uphill side. Almost worked until the trailer decided to pass me by, pull us down the road and over the bank. My daughter was scared, but we came through fine. Amazingly enough, the truck only sustained a small scratch on the tailgate, rock rash on a wheel, and broke out a plastic beauty cap on the wheel. The tongue on the trailer will likely need replacing too. A few neighbors and relatives brought in a D-7 cat with cables and a major pulley to get me out. They even managed to salvage the load of wood. This was definitely a Christmas miracle. The damage should have been much worse. Why the truck stopped where it did almost defies logic.

Thanks for the thoughts and comments. Some events are beyond comprehension, and well...I thank God for the outcome. Everyone involved in the recovery are still shaking their heads. Had I managed to go a little further we would have dropped off a 100 ft embankment into an old growth fir forest...chances of human and truck survival would have been miniscule. Christmas came early this year... and the wood was successfully delivered to an elderly widow tonight.
