What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

I've been doing it all by hand. I've been wet sanding since I began using clear coat and it's perfectly smooth to the touch. Well minus a couple spots where I botched the bondo job but they are out of sight really. I've been using 1000 grit paper on the clear and I'm going to assume I prolly need higher than that even.

I do have an orbital sander though but when I tried to use it initially to remove the old paint it just felt bulky so I switched to sanding it by hand.

I owe you one! I'm grateful for your input and Monday I'll be ready to go in whatever direction I need to. It's just not getting better haha

May I suggest something like these to protect the bolt heads?

Did you form the bends or weld them?
I ask because they look welded. If that is the case, you may get cracks down the road.... which may lead to failure of the entire length of the weld. Something to consider. Maybe add some gussets welded in at the "bends".

Bending with a brake press is the way to go....

By hand is fine, especially if you do not have a random orbital polisher designed for paintwork. If you have not used a block to sand I would recommend it. It will help keep everything flat. Hit what you have done with 1500 then 2000 grit wet sanding then you will be ready to buff. When I have a little time later I will post some links to some products you can use to get the shine you want.

 

Earlier in the week I added a CR LAURENCE power sliding rear window.

What type of mechanism is used to make it slide?

 

Trimmed up my fender liners so they arent tied up with copper wire any more. There was actually a nut on a stud that lined up with one of the holes for the plastic screws that originally came in it. Then i trimmed on an angle down and toward the radiator(kinda) and used the bottom of a set of 2 bolts on the body. Both nut and bolt used to secure the liner were 10 mm heads. Go figure.

 

Took it to the dealership so it can get the clock spring replaced!

It's out of warranty, no TSB for 2011, buuuut I got a great deal... I will only pay 40 bucks for the change!

And they will wash it for free!

 

my clock spring went out too, i also have a 2011. just ordered one a few days ago for $50.00
