What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Dang what had to get fixed? I'm worried about taking it in tomorrow and hearing how much it'll cost... I can't figure it out for the life of me

 

Bro...you're method of cutting the back of the housing and not removing the front clear part is the best method. That way you don't get the burring around the clear lens as I did by cutting through the channel from the side. Cheers to you brother! If I could do it again...I would use your technique... Great job!

 

Bro...sorry to hear that! Shit like that can happen when doing electrical for sure. You really have to know what you're doing. Not sure where you tapped to get power, but in the future I would recommend getting an extra fuse box (engine bay) and running some wires through the firewall grommet and into the cab and just have them tied up for additional use. Tapping power from the main fuse panel in the cab can be tricky as a lot of the primary functions are tied in to that box panel. Anyways...best of luck to you brother...

 

Yeah I really should get an extra fuse box... It'd probably pay for itself in one day of messing up like I did tonight. I had tapped into an empty fuse slot but that one stopped working after the mishap. Now I'm starting power from the fuse controlling the radio.

Do you have a multimeter? You're gonna have to start back tracing wires to find where the bad wires are. A wiring diagram would help you tremendously. You can try alldata.com to get them.

 

Do you know where the smoke was coming from? The area?

I think it was just the wire that melted... Couldn't tell if anything else was smoking. Just a damn stupid mistake unfortunately.

 

Yes but which wire? The one you tapped into? Or the light wire itself? I'm sure somehow we can fix this. Just need an idea of where to start at. I personally would start at the fuse one the top left and work my way to the bottom right inside the truck and out. Relay's of course are a lot harder but we can figure it out.

it was my wire, a wire I was running to a ground that i accidently hooked up to the power lead on the switch, and the power wire was hooked to the ground lead on the switch.. I flipped the switch over when I picked it up and didn't notice. So the ground wire melted and I think that's all that was smoking, but like I said, I'm not entirely sure.

What kind of shop would I take it to? Just a standard mechanic? Or do I need some electrical specialist?

Well the truck is in the shop having diagnostics run... Hopefully that'll actually bear fruit and give an answer. The guy didn't sound too confident that it would tell them much. He also said he'd have to unhook all my wiring and take it back to stock before he could run diagnostics... So looks like after I get the truck fixed I'll have work cut out for me re-wiring everything, but this time I'll hook it all up to a secondary fuse block I just bought from a member.
Here's to hoping everything gets fixed soon and it doesn't blow up the bank!

Did a proper bixenon retrofit this weekend. Fuck that drop-in HID bullshit.

 

Received and installed my factor55 prolink today. Tomorrow I should receive my 4.10 gears.
