I changed oil to Pennzoil synthetic today. I "feel" a difference

I have an innocent question.

If syn oil causes noticeable smoother running, and mayeb better gas mileage, how come the syn oil brands (Royal Purple, Mobil 1, Amsoil, et al) do not mention this in their marketing?

I use Mobil 1 and love it, but I am just not feeling the mystical vibes some of you are . . .

You're comparing apples to oranges. Know anything about socialism? How about a 50% income tax which is what many Europeans pay (France and Germany are but two examples). Currency valuations go up and down, just as any traded commodity. Don't act as though it won't change. Besides, you're comparing one nation's currency to an entire continent's. Having been to France and Germany, I know a thing or two and I will tell you that I wouldn't trade my life here with the freedom's we have for anything in Europe. Matter of fact, I'm embarrassed to say that my ancestors came from such a land full of malaise and brainwashing.

Talk about not having been to Europe...

Oh, and I won't get into the arab muslim takeover that's going on in Europe right now. But you already know all about that, right?

I honestly didn't either. I just prefer to use the best product for my needs. I have seen first hand (engine internals) the difference between an engine using synthetic and one using dino. It is striking.

Yup, I am fan of these oils, but for reasons such as the one you state about decreased wear etc. These oils have a great story to tell just on factors like that. I just do not see the gas mileage gains. And in today's climate especially, if such claims could be made scientifically by reputable testing (not like what the Royal has on their site), and could stand up to scrutiny, we would be hearing about it of course.

So, they have many great attributes to stand on their own use as reasons to switchover to, but appreciable, consistent, measureable gas mileage gains as well as "smoother running" are not amongst them, in my humble opinion. The people that say they experience these - all power to them though - I just don 't see it.

This may be picky and it is too late, but military refers to land warfare, Naval refers to sea warfare.
I am much obliged to my sister sea services, but they are not military.
I am Infantry.
My Dad flew for the Navy and my best friend was a Marine corspman in combat. I earned membership in the Tail Hook Assn. with one arrested landing and one cat shot on the USS Kitty Hawk. That boat looks small from the back seat of an F-4D. It was daylight, we did not gas, and the deck was not pitching. I did not get the full experiance. I would love to fly the ball on a night landing. That is not going to happen now. But it was a lot of fun on the taxpayer`s dime. Pete had to fly the hours anyway.
I knew my pilot, he was an Instructor Pilot at Top Gun, NAS Miramar, and USNA, his wife and mine were school chums, so I just enjoyed it. We were drinking beer at the club on the flight line when Pete asked me if I would like to take a hop. They frown on just the beer now.
Do bears crap in the woods? Hell yes; point me to a pressure suit and a brain bucket. Pete was about my size and they issue a spare outfit. Pete tried to make me sick, but I was flying before birth, and Dad did aerobatics in a Luscombe. That will ground loop on you in a heatbeat if you lose concentration. I`m told my favorites were "loopdeloop" and rolls before I remember.
I put some hours on it before Dad went with AAL and we had to sell it. Co Pilots do not make much. It will do all of the military or Navy air manouvers. You have to dive for entry speed. When Dad made CAPT. he bought a PA 140 and a PA 235. We still have the Cherokee 235.
After we hit the MOA over the water, we took it to mach 2.3 and then slowed to about 500 for some ACM fun. We were at 20.000 so I took the stick. I pulled more G`s than the book said. We reset it. It pegs at the most. It would not do to have CAG see it; not a career enhancer for Pete. I was in the Army Stand By reserves going to UCLA. My boss was in D.C. They could not do much to me. This was about`70. Pete did two tours off of boats on Yankee Station. He must have done well to make early 04.
So he was still in combat mode. The rule book was back there somewhere. Our helo and L-19 pilots taught door gunners or any one else who wanted to fly. I had an SSE Land ticket. The Bird Dog has a removable rear stick if the pilot does not trust you. I logged the 22 hours for an Air Medal, in helos and fixed wing and then some. Flying a UH 1B is like juggling while standing on a beach ball. You get the hang of it like driving a 5 x 4. If you are at altitude, you can`t get in too much trouble. The G limits do get stretched. Flying straght is no problem. You can fly it into the ground like a controled crash carrier landing if both pilots are dead or wounded. It beats the alternative. Hovering is the tough part. You still have control if you slide the skids on.
You can`t do this stuff in peacetime, or in todays Army.
I`m not going to fly The Phantom again. I did not see any popped rivets. (I knew an F-100 driver that popped them all. The only thing holding the wings on was the weight of his ordnance. He forgot to arm the master switch on his first combat run, which he went into way too fast. The wings would have folded had he dropped. The G meter read 9.)
A split S will cost you 5,000 in an F-4 even using after burner to pull out. It has a good rate of roll and climbs like a homesick angel with a power to weight ratio of two to one. We had no ordnance, so it performed even better.
LTC. Phelps looked a litle green when we climbed out on the apron. He looked better when the first pitcher was poured.
I never have had motion sickness. They had a simulater that would give you vertigo. That is a wierd feeling. Blind folded, you really lose orientation. I was surprised. I thought I was in a left bank and I was straight and level.

anyone tried mobil ones new 0w30 green cap synthetic oil it supposes to take the place of 5w30 and 10w30 .delivering better fuel economy i changed my saturday the truck had 3375 miles on it filled it up today will check my milage in a week or so been averaging 16 to 16.5 in city

Sorry dude, but I kind of like the semi social system. A couple months back, I crashed my dirt bike and bruised my hip and spine, and damages some nerves a while back. I had to get choppered out of the boonies, and taken to the hospital. do you know what it cost me? exactly $0. even now, I'm still doing spine corrections and stuff, and it doesn't cost me anything. plus I got paid while I healed up. Although it is true I do pay a lot of income tax, which pisses me off, but the free health care and not having to worry about that kind of stuff definitely helps.

Also somebody mentioned economy collapse. From what I can see that is kinda what is happening to the states right now. your dollar is going down, houses, and vehicles are becoming dirt-cheap (maybe not to you guys, because your dollar is down, but it is much cheaper for me to drive to the states and buy a car off the lot, then buy a used one in Canada)

How much do you PAY for that healthcare? You're saying $0 but you're either lying or fooling yourself because SOMEBODY pays for it. Your taxes are stratospheric and your healthcare leaves a lot to be desired. Canadians come to the US in droves to access our healthcare system because they cannot get the care they need in Canada. BTW, I've worked/am working in the healthcare and health insurance industries for 15 years so I know just a little bit about this topic.

As for the economy, where do you get "collapse"? There are problems with a couple of segments right now, particularly housing because it was overvalued, but we are not in a recession (recession = two quarters of negative growth). Our economy overall is strong but a lot of folks choose to get their news from the liberal mainstream media instead of actually looking at the facts. You being in Canada have no clue what's going on because all you have is the news; I'm living it and I'm doing fine. I also have insurance and pay very little for it and have no worries when it comes to coverage. I won't get into how the worldwide economy is in a downturn, too (Asian stocks down for the 3rd straight day).

The value of the US dollar, your Canadian dollar is worth $1.0015 to our dollar so what are you talking about? Sure, the US dollar has it's problems (which I blame the Federal Reserve for; quit helping banks by keeping interest rates low which in turn creates inflation) but these things happen. You won't hear me crying, what with all my oil company stock.

I thought I had got a bad batch of 100% synthetic oil from an old oil well, or either an improper hydro-cracking formulation, but I was still suspicious and looked further for the problem; and then I saw it; or rather did not see it, as my power band had been stolen, all I had was an empty powerband cavity, even the powerband actuator/servo was missing, but the wiring and PBCM were both present. Is the powerband an option?; I was led to believe it was standard. Could someone have mistaken it for a cat converter?; I mean what kind of dumba** would do that, the don't even look anything alike After a diligent search of the truck and the surrounding area, I found on the ground, a 12 point titanium powerband retaining bolt (metric grade 17.2) which looks like it was removed with ViceGrip Locking Pliers®; which is not the correct tool, so it looks like a street level, rank ameteur job. I will still demand Toyota warranty the powerband and all misc hardware, since they made it so easy to steal, no matter what happened to it, it absolutely can't be my fault by any means, shape, form or fashion, it was Toyota's negligence in not installing an "Illicit Powerband Removal Deterrence" (IPRD). If at least 2 more people have this problem; we can prob go class action. We will make waves all the way to Toyota corporate Japan; waves is putting it lightly, it will be more like a tsunami. After my powerband is restored, I fully expect to no longer have 10.1 second 0-60 times with 20-21MPG, and have the 7.0 second 0-60 with 27.5 MPG @ 75MPH. I know Toyota has My 2.7L "held back" due to the influence of big oil. So; all of you out there who have seen no visible, viable benefits of a premium synthetic oil, other than piece of mind, check to make sure your powerband is in it's nest and accounted for. I hope yours is present and accounted for; as I wish this plague on no one.

I was visiting with my stockbroker just yesterday and we got into a sort of rambling, generalized discussion of the economy and what might be done to improve it. I feel quite strongly, and he didn't disagree, that the Fed's series of unprecedented interest-rate cuts were a big mistake and one that they need to reverse pronto. It has kicked the dollar's ass against foreign currencies, and that has led to vastly higher oil prices which, in turn, is what is dragging on the economy right now in addition to the housing crunch. If the Fed raised interest rates significantly and in several stages it would strengthen the dollar, reduce the price of oil, reduce inflationary pressures, give people more incentive to save, and while it might have a negative effect in the short-term on the stock market, how would that be worse than what is going on in that sector right now?
