I got the shakes...bad

My '05 4cyl Tacoma ( 103,000 miles) has never been glass smooth but a week ago it developed a terrible vibration. It happens under acceleration at pretty much all speeds. At 70-75 mph it does smooth out a little. I had it looked at at the dealer when I had a service done. I was told it was the transmission mount. I order and installed the mount myself. The vibration is still there and seems to be getting worse. Is there another mount that could be the problem? it does seem to vibrate some when sitting while in gear but really shakes while accelerating. In park or neutral it is smooth running.

Please help.

 

I'm going through the same. I also had the mounts replaced. My vibes mostly went away but every now and then I still have them. Toyota still doesn't know what it is so they are opening a case on toyota service bulliten.

I didn't take the time to check those when I changed the trans mount. I should have I know. I will give them a shake on Sunday.

So you guys think it is a trans problem?
It looks to me like the U-joint is jacked up since it seems to be wobbling down stream of the trans U-joint.
U-joint= $12 + time changing
Trans= Lots of money I don't have =
I have been procrastinating this morning.

 

I am seeing a lot of trans tailshaft movement as well.
I would change out the U-Joint first since you did the trans mount already.
The shaft does seem to be moving in an out of round orbit at slow speeds.

I would do one of two things. Go ahead and replace the u-joint with a quality joint. This shouldn't cost much and will narrow down your list, or better yet, solve the problem. You can also check the u-joint by grabbing the drive shaft while the truck is in gear with the engine off and the parking brake on, and trying to rotate it. if you feel excessive play in the joint, it is most likely bad.

If this doesn't solve your problem, disconnect the drive shaft where it meets the tail shaft of the trans, and check the run-out of your tail shaft. You could possibly have a bad bearing in the trans that it causing excessive run-out and leading to vibrations. There is also the possibility that you have a bent drive shaft, although it doesn't appear to be bent in your video.

 

Front u-joint looks bad, just changed mine a couple weeks ago.
