First Mods!

I've had my Taco for a little over a month now, and decided to do a few things. Since my wife is very short, I added step bars to help her out. This should keep the edge of the seat from being torn up as badly from all the sliding in and out. Next on the list was wheels and tires. I went with the XD 778 Monsters and Cooper Zeon LTZ tires. I'll add the details for those that are scrubbing the threads, as I did, to get some insight as to what will or will not fit.

The specs are as follows: 20x9, +18 offset, 5.71" backspace, the tires are 275/45R20.

Nothing rubs and I have the original suspension. (ie, no lift) The high offset keeps everything barely within the fender, so I will not throw stuff on the paint as bad. However, there is plenty of room between the tire and the UCA. My first impression of the Coopers is that they are a quiet ride and seem to handle great. We are supposed to get more snow in the KC area soon, so I'll report back with my thoughts on all season traction.

My next mod on the list is to debadge everything except the TRD sticker. I may decide to take them off at a later date, but I want to see how it looks with just them.

I think it's because my tire is just a little shorter than the OE tire. The original 265/65R17 is 30.6" tall, while the 275/45R20 is 29.8". The tire is 10mm larger in section width, but the wheel has a back space of 5.71, compared to the the 5.5" of the original TRD Sport wheels. It is close, and I'm probably more lucky than good, but I think I searched every single thread on this site regarding tire and wheel combos. I'd like to think I did my homework to make this work well.

 

The truck looks great man. What did you do with the original TRD wheels after you got the new set?

 

I put them in storage. I had the tire shop put regular valve stems in the original setup after they switched the TPMS over to my new set.

Do those tires have enough meat on 'em to be decent for offroading?

Why are you astonished, the tires he is running are smaller than stock.

 

If you look at the tread deapth and pattern, they are the same as all the other zeon LTZs. However, with the really short sidewall, they wouldn't work well off road. If you go with one of the taller profiles, I think they would great.

viet2100 nailed it. The only offroading this thing will be doing is the occasional trip through a field to go shoots some weapons.

They have done great in the snow though. They have enough sipes to do great in all the winter weather we've had.

nice! i was debating on getting the step bars, but the wife is short too and every time she climbs in n out, im praying the seat fabric is still intact.
