Fitting quads in the bed

Looking at Quads. What size quad has anyone (if any) been able to fit in the bed of their quadcab regular bed? With tailgate up? With it down?

probably none(tailgate up)..... unless its a little 90 or somthin. down you should be able to put whatever one you want in the back, just tie it in good. My honda 450 fits with about 1 1/2 inches behind the back tires in my access cab std bed. perfect for me cuz the front tires wedge into the front of the bed and it doesnt budge. i'll add a pic next week when i go to the dunes for spring break. right now the quad is still in pieces in my garage and im waiting on DASA to send my head back after porting.......supposedly they shipped it yesterday, we'll see.

 

I don't have a quad, but I'd recommend using some plywood or something to bridge the bed and tailgate.

These tailgates have been bent loading bikes due to all the weight in the middle. Quads would distribute it more, but it just shows how weak the sheet metal used to make the tailgate is. I'd hate to hear about it bending after you hauled the quad with the back tires sitting on the tailgate. A couple good bumps might be enough to do that.

I reinforced mine with angle iron, but a 3/4" piece of plywood sitting under the tires covering part of the bed and the tailgate should prevent that.

I have an predator 500 it fit's with the tail gate down and barely sit's on the tail gate you'll have some problem's if you get a quad with aftermarket a arm's it will be to wide to fit in the wheel well's.

 

good call bart. the fenders in the double cab short bed go all the way to the front of the bed, so unlike in mine the tires can't roll up and over and wedge themselves in. this is exactly the case with mine- i have some +2" a-arms on the front and it has to roll up and over, but most stockers will fit between the fenders, just a little tight. also, most ATV manufacturers measure the with from the back tires, because the front is a little bit narrower on stock quads so if you measure fender width(on the taco), a quad thats an inch wider in the specs should still probably fit between them.

 

Or you can roll it up on the fender wells, let the tires sit in the notches on them, and strap it down real well.

Which is where having extra D-Rings comes in handy!

 

That might work depending on how wide they go, my 450 is 48.5" front, and when i roll mine in, one tire always wants to slip off and leave the other one on. when the suspension droops from lifting it up on to it, it gets a little narrower which is why they do this. basically, i'd sum it all up and say that if it's an occasional quad hauler, then the shorty is fine, if you expect to haul it to your ride spot thats 2 hours away every other weekend, then you might want to just go with the long bed. no worries that way.
