Slow clutch pedal operation in cold weather
I have experienced a problem with the clutch pedal lately, when the temp drops below the freezing mark. The clutch pedal stays to the floor for about 10 to 15 seconds before slowly returning to the off position. This problem disappears as the temp inside the cab increases.
Has anyone else experienced this? |

Sunruner19, it was 0deg yesterday and I did not notice any problems, mine is a V6 and there may be a differnce. I would run it by the dealer and if necessary leave it when a real cold day comes along so they can check the problem out.

Have you checked your transmission fluid level? It sounds like you may be low on fluid and as the engine runs for a while, the pressure builds up and the pedal gets stiff. Experience that on my wife's vehicle from time to time.

Mine doesn't stick but it does move slow when it's cold. I usually let it warm up for 15mins and then it's fine.

I have talked to one of the Toyota Techs where i work and he seems to remember seeing a service bulletin on this. Being a new dealership, we are still working out the kinks in our place, so it will be a few weeks at the most before I will write up a followup on this and hopefully, the noisey composite bed issue talked about elsewhere in the forum. One thing for sure, its a cold weather problem only, with the clutch pedal issue. When the cab warms up, the problem disappears which lead me to beleive its the shaft or bearing on the clutch pedal shaft that is the root of the problem.

Great diagnosis, sunruner19. I only had that problem just a few times during the coldest snaps and like you said once the cab warms up , problem disappears.

Right now, we are still going through the new dealership total confusion syndrome. We should be settled down by the end of this month as to exactly who is who, who does what, and keeping salesman away from me who think they know more about detailing cars than I do. I dont sell cars and I dont tell em how to, but I have one salesman who thinks he owns the dealership, thinks he knows how to detail cars, and he is in for one rude awakening this morning.
I bugged the tech on this last week, and he told me that they are waiting for tech support to tie into their computer. gilches etc which is normal for a new dealership. Just letting you know that I havent forgotten about this clutch thing, cause I am affected by it also. |

Way to follow up, sunruner19, salesmen are like that and there are always people who know more than expierenced craftsmen. Keep us informed.
