Torque specs on Alternator

Does anyone know the torque specs on the electrical connector nut on the alternator? Its a 10mm nut. I had to remove the alternator to replace my belt tensioner and the other day it melted the cover over the wire connector. I guess it was not on tight enough. Now I keep gettin a battery light on the dash that comes and goes.... DOH!

 

i usually tighten them till there tight. Works every time.

 

Interesting. if its only 7 I defenitly had it tight enought. It was fine all last week and then this morning my wipers barely moved and the battery light was on. I popped the hood and the cover over the connector was melted and I pushed on the connection and it sparked and moved. maybe it needs threadlock on it? Also does anyone put any grease or vaseline on the conection? I know my Dad used to do that on the boat battery.

Did you ever get it fixed. I replaced mine last week so far so good.

 

I did get it fixed although I could not locate the terminal cover at any local auto parts place and Toyota does not sell it. So short of buying and entire alternator or going to the bone yard I had to jury rig it. I used a peice of plastic tubing and some wire ties. No problems yet. Although my belt started squeeling again last week with all the rain. I ordered a GoodYear Gatorback belt and it has not made any noise since I ordered it. belt came in yesterday. Guess I will put it on this weekend anyway. I have to say the noisy belt issue on my Tacoma has driven me insane to the point that I probably wont buy another Toy with this engine.
