Keyless fob.

When I purchased my tacoma it came with 1 key. No fob, no valet, nothing. I went to a local locksmith about getting a new key that will open the truck, and start it. Turns out they are going to have to order me one ($$$). I asked about the keyless fob and one of the employees said that there is a chance that my truck will not work with one. There is a series of steps that can be perormed (like programing the fob) that will determine if this is the case. Is here an easier way to figure out if I am fob-able or fobless without performing the steps?

I have a '05 TRD OR AC 4X4. 6 spd. manny., power everything.

All 2005's have a fob. You can get one off ebay for less than $20. That is where I get mine when the one I have dies. They even come with program instructions, it is very easy. Dealer wants $80 for a fob, never buy from them.

 

Do I need the one with three buttons (lock, unlock, panic - red) or is there another option?

The title reminds me of my Dad when he locked himself out of the house. hahaha!

Disclaimer: I'm Pinoy and migrated to America when I was 8 years old, so I can say FOB w/o gettin in trouble.

 

Note the keys are chipped. I was under the impression it was dealer only item to replace due to programing the key...

Got it used from a mom and pop dealership. They said that they could get the replacements (fob and chipped key), but they would have to go through Toyota and we all know what that means. Bend over and take it.
