6 speed manual

hello Tacoma owners. I don't actually own a Tacoma, just work on them. I ask of you for a favor as one car enthusiast to another.

I own a Lexus IS300, and found that it may be possible to use the 6 spd from a Tacoma in our vehicles, obviously with some modifications. IS300's don't have a lot of options for standard transmissions that are reliable and economically friendly to swap. So we are venturing out and trying to find some specifications.

I have found some information and would greatly appreciate it, if possibly a guru could help me out. I would like to know the bolt pattern on the Transmission for the Bellhousing, and I could use overall dimensions.

If someone has a trans. out of there truck right now, id be willing to drive and compare. At the moment I do not have any Tacoma's with a 6-spd at my work, otherwise I would do there.

Don't have any dimensions for you but I'm almost positive that the Aisin AY6 six speed is the same for Tacoma and IS300....along with some others.

The IS only came in a 5 speed. Which they used a W55..... :-/

 

That's really interesting because the IS300 from 02-05 only had the option of a W55 5-spd. So that's interesting.

 

I'd like to know the answer to this as well. I don't have an IS300 but I think they are awesome cars and would love to own one. GTE/Getrag swap would be nice as well.

 

Yea I totally agree, but you're looking at 4000 just for a used trans. (ballpark) Plus drive shaft, bellhousing, clutch. And our dif. is to tall (3.72) for that trans. So best bet you have to swap it out with gs400 i believe.

Or you can got with a r154 but that trans is sloppy. Now we have found that more than likely you can use an AR-5. Because it is built on the r154 housing.

In any case thanks. But I am really curious about this trans. Although I do think that the first gear is too high.

I would not use this transmission. I would search out another. It has a history of bad throw out bearings. Also, the input shaft is not supported at the tip like most manual transmissions.

 

Well would anyone the difference between the RA60 from the tacoma and the RA62 of the IS250?

At the moment I am just trying to find out if the bell housing bolt pattern would match up to a 1jz bell housing. Basically is the RA60 and the R155 the same bell housing bolt pattern?

 

Did you ever find the answer to this or any other alternatives?

 

Have to add that this transmition is a clunka. Bad to bearings make it very squeeky deeky. Trust me, mine squeeks and squeeks and squeeks. Toyota doesn't even have a tsb for it. They'll put in a new bearing thats good for another 25,000 miles. Then it squeeks again. There too busy keeping there cars from crashing into things right now. I hope they come to terms with a permanent fix.
