Fender Corrosion

I have an '09 Tacoma TRD with the flared wheel wells. I noticed after getting it muddy a few times that it is very difficult to get mud out of the gap between the factory flared wheel well and the nomal fender. Seems like this will be an ideal spot for corrosion. Has anyone found an easy way to clean this area or to make it less prone to gather mud? There is about a 1 in lip on the flare that overlaps the fender lip. I thought about drilling holes through the flare lip every inch or so to allow mud and dirt to fall through. Anyone else think there is a problem and have a solution?

 

some people fiberglass the cracks for that reason, but i think drilling is a bad idea

 

Take the hose and wash it out really well. Thats what I have done in the past and it all came out. I think it might be all plastic in there, but if you really want get a pipe scrubber thing and use that.
