I am new to this forum and looking into purchasing a tacoma. I am looking into a couple of trucks, both of which are about the same price and about the same mileage.

one is a double cab, long bed, automatic, trd sport 4x4.

other is a double cab, short bed, 6 spd. sr5 4x4.

can any one tell me the differences between the sr5 and the trd? i have been looking on here and havent been able to find the information i have been looking for.

Is it a TRD Offroad? If so then you will have a rear locker. The SR5 has 4x4 but will only spin 3 tires if I'm correct.

Other than that the TRD has different seats and possibly depending on year, VSC controls and other features on the left side of the dash.

SR5 will not have the rear locker. That option comes with the TRD off road.

The TRD you're looking at is a TRD Sport. Does not have the rear locker but has the limited slip differential, which is good. Better suspension, interior looks and larger wheels, so long as they are still stock.

If I'm not mistaken the rear locker was offered as an option on the SR5 truck, the best way to determine if it has it or not is to look for the RR diff lock button.

so i am confused..i thought the SR-5 was just an option package you applied to your vehicle...so you could get
    4x4 TRD
    4x4 TRD w/ SR-5 options
    4x4
    4x4 w/ SR-5 options
    etc...

am i crazy? someone tell me how this really goes!!!!

I have a 4x4 SR5. It is not a TRD Sport or Offroad. It has tow package and some things but it doesn't have as many options as the TRD's.

I'm pretty sure all TRDs have the SR5 options and badging. Not sure about the others. You still might be crazy. I might be crazy.

my issue is that the sr5 is a 3 hour drive to get and the trd sport is around a 6 hour drive...i dont wheel very often but do like to have some fun in the mud... is the drive worth it for the trd sport or should i just stick with the sr5? oh yea, do they come with the same stereo, if so is it a 6 disc?

Not sure about the radio. My Sport came with a 6 Disc, but it's a 2010. Too many unanswered variables such as price, color and mileage; however, I would make the extra drive to get the TRD Sport.

OP, Your gonna have to call and get more info on what the trucks have. Either truck can have the 6 disk, but the TRD Sport can have the 6 Disk JBL. Either can have the LS diff too. The TRD Sport will have a 110 V. outlet in the bed, and Bilstien shocks. It will also have "Sport" seats, but the Non TRD may have a Fold Flat passenger seat....
