Cost to paint your Tacoma

I found a great deal online on an 05 Tacoma Access Cab, Prerunner. Its absolutely beautiful. The only problem is the color. I don't want to offend anyone that has the Speedway Blue colored trucks, but I'd much prefer it to be Black Sand Pearl color. Has anyone painted their entire truck? How much did it cost you, if you dont mind?

free cuz i would do it myself... most body shops wouldnt even do it for the fact it isnt worth the money.takes up too much time and shop space.i assume you want to do all the jams as well?? i bet between $3k and $5k for a full paint job with no body work.i wouldnt do it for anything less unless its for one of my friends/family members.

 

Oh, damn. Alright, that's pretty steep. I guess I'm best off paying more and just getting in black from the start. Am I a friend?? JK

 

lol. i would stick with a stock unpainted truck

 

stick with the blue its nice imo and if you paint it the truck will be worth less when you sell it

 

Really? A new paint job decreases resale value?

 

Just buy the color you want. Its way too much money to do a color change and not worth the trouble. Also like the guy above said if you ever sold the truck people would wonder why it was repainted.

 

no matter what kind of paint job or what the price you are basically out that much money...painting it will never help you unless it looks really really bad then a paint job might bring you back to a better price but i bet you would only break even if your lucky. not worth it!

 

just go to walmart and pick out a color you loke and buy like 15 cans of it and paint your self

 

Would you buy a used truck that had been painted? Wouldn't you want to know WHY it had been painted?

 

Well, I would wonder, but if the old paint job wasn't good, either it was chipping, or the color wasn't appealing, and there is no record of an accident on file for the vehicle, I wouldn't mind. I'd actually like that, it would most probably be more like new, have less scratches. That's my 2 cents, but I guess most people disagree.

 

I've never heard of anyone buying a brand new vehicle and immediately painting it another color.

 

Its not brand new, its a 2005 used Tacoma.... in Speedway Blue. Its around 13 grand, but it has quite some options and its a prerunner with relatively low mileage. I wouldn't paint a new Tacoma either, but after 5 years....

 

What color is it? They didn't have Speedway Blue 11 years ago, i believe.

 

Yea, generally painting will bring you resale down (if not make it hard to sell by turning people away). The VIN is going to show it's a Speedway Blue also...

Also, to really paint it right, you'll need to strip the truck from EVERYTHING, all wiring, drivetrain, interior, ect. The BSP's have all black trim in the non exterior parts, door jams and such are BSP. The Speedway Blue's have blue trimming in the engine bay and everywhere else... to do it right, it'd take a ton of work. It's really just not worth it. Now, if you could care less about resale and minor details... you could just do the exterior fairly cheap and you may be happy with it, in the end that's all that matters. I'd find a BSP prerunner elsewhere though, it's not like they are hard to find...

 

I'll admit cMack, your paint job does look good! You never did anything to it but wax and buff it up?

 

Well we got my first truck painted and it cost us around $1k to do a single cab 1982 datsun pickup. They did a really good job on it too.
