when I did a long trip last month, I watched my scangauge to find a sweet spot on highway driving that gets the best mileage. it seems to be around 60-70 (I see mpg avg around 19~19.5). mpg drops considerably when going > 75mph. this is on v6 dc 4x4 trd or.

Sup lopedogg. High humidity in places like Washington lower the gas mileage. If you were to live in Colorado where it is dry and high your gas mileage would really improve.

I used to live in Colorado and had a 94 Wrangler 4liter. It routinely got 21 to 22 miles per gallon in Denver. In the mountains it went down to 18 to 19. That's an old push rod motor. When I moved to California it was normal to get 16 to 18 when driving was similar to Denver, not a lot of hills.

I would suspect that your Tacoma would probably go up to 21 to 22 miles per gallon in Denver. Just speculation but what do you CO guys think? Is that about what you get with your 4liter Tacos.

I bought a 2010 Toyota Tacoma 4 Cly SR5 model. My towing needs changed and I traded it for a 2008 Tacoma DC TRD. I was quite suprise by how I am getting almost the same gas mileage with the 6 Cyl as I did with the 4 banger. If I would have known that from the start, I would have bought a 2010 TRD. Anyway, its an awesome truck and only had 30K on it when I bought it. I used to get 550 Km and use 68 L of gas. Now I get 550 Km and use 72 L.

1+ year after buying and I'm still holding at about the same mileage. I saw a dip in winter due to colder weather and the truck taking longer to warm up... fall and spring were great, with some 23+mpg tanks. Now that it's summer I'm back down a little bit due to running the A/C all the time. Overall it's consistent in the 20-22 range. When I get below 20 I can track it to some specific event (hauling/towing, lots of driving away from my normal areas or even just crappy gas).

just filled up today on my 09 4X4 A/C 4 banger Manual, calculated 22.849 MPG. A/C fully blasted all day every day due to it being FLA... Can't complain about that for getting to work and back mileage for a truck.

I'm getting a solid 19mpg in my 2 week old stock DC 4x4 SR5 with the Dunlap's. I'm hoping for 20mpg after some break-in and with Mobile-1 I'm changing to this week (1200 miles)

As much as I love the lifted trucks with aggressive wheels/tires...I'm not so sure I want to give up the mpg for it.

I'll probably just get the TSB springs...maybe some stock sized black wheels (or paint my steelies) and run some Michelin's when these Dunlap's are done.

Interesting to see what folks are finding mpg wise. My 2010 dbl cab, v-6 w/ auto & fiberglass tonnet cover seems to average 20 mpg with both city & hwy driving. I live in north central TX & drove to Colorado last month with some mountain driving & actually got better mileage during that trip than I do here???? Of course anytime we choose a pickup we have to expect less milage than a comparable powered sedan. More drag! The more "stuff" you add to your pu adds weight and likely drag, depending on what it is. Larger tires, bumper guards (which most people never use--just like the looks), lift kits-------all generally detract from milage. As to ethenol in our fuel, we are getting screwed big time by the politicians/lobby groups, etc. Less btu's per volume & as much or more pollution not to speak of the waste of resources, especially water, used to produce the product. Its time to do some house cleaning of politicians!

    Here!! Here!!

The only thing ethanol has done is make corn farmers, and those who speculate in the commodity, rich. And most of the large scale farmers are already subsidized with our tax dollars to begin with.

Another "feel good" idea brought to us by politicians and their water carrying media.

Politicians are like diapers...they need to be changed often...and for the same reason.

15.5 to 19.2 has been my low to high range for my 2010 V-6 Automatic DC 4WD OR. As you can see, I am doing the Fuelly.com thing which automatically posts my average mileage right here on TW.

The fuel is mostly Costco, then ARCO, and more rare Union 76 or Shell... in San Diego County. In Mexico, it is Pemex (the only brand), but always 87 octane...

My typical driving is around town and highway 50/50 and that usually gives me 16.5-17 mpg. Pure city (around town) and I get 15.5-16 mpg. Pure highway puts me at 17.5 to 18.5, usually. The one time I got over 19 mpg was in Baja, highway driving, on Pemex gas... no Califorinia emissions additives, just pure gasoline!

This was pretty much what my 2001 and 2005 Tacoma gave me, as well.

When I get new tires, I plan on going from the 265/70-16s to 265/75-16s and that 1" taller tire should make my odometer more accurate... and the mileage will drop a bit, because the speedometer reads too fast now. That taller tire will improve my ground clearance by 1/2 inch, too... to 9.75" min.

Bilstein ft shocks @ 2.5" lift, 1" rear Toytec block kit with matching pair of Bilsteins. (No shims & driveshaft reversed) < will end slop & vibe issues guaranteed! 265-75-16 Michelin SUV's, 16x8 American Racing Mohaves. Carr 20" steps paint to match. TRD seatcovers, OBX pedal covers & shifter. Factory fog lights, switch & relay. Halos headlights (angeleyes), Grille & halo fogs ordered. Bilsteins best upgrade I did, Toytec rocks!
I run 2.5 Bilstein front lift with a Toytec 1" rear block, 265-75-16 Michelin Straight ribbed tires. I average 23-24 on summer gas gas and 21-22 on winter blend. I actually hit 25 on 2 tanks once 50,000 rolled around. Aggresive tires, and low pressure pay key roles as does driving habits. I drive like the old man I am and never get in a hurry. 65,000 and I still have the original brake pads....................

if you slow that down to 65 and leave 10-15 min earlier, I dont see why you couldnt be at 18-19 maybe even 20!

I have a 2.7L A/C prerunner with 265, 4" lift yada yada. With ac I get average 24-25 highway. Overall average with wheeling and such about 21-22.

Had the Ultra-Gauge for a few days now and trying to take a closer look at real-world mileage. My stock 2011 V6 DC LB has been averaging 21-22 MPG since I began monitoring. I've been runnning 93 Octane Shell or Chevron for each tank. As a previous member mentioned, there seems to be a sweet spot for mileage in the 35-45 MPH range and the 55-65 MPH range. Mileage drops dramatically above 70 MPH. The 4.0L has lots of torque and the transmission works to try and reach those higher gears quickly in order to maximize your mileage. When you are trying to accelerate from a high gear, take a little more time so the transmmission does not downshift and you will likely see much better mileage. Allowing the truck to accelerate the way I want to accelerate results in 16-18 MPG for me on the same route.

I was going to post "How do people with non-standard tire size calculate their mileage?" and there it is.
    FYI 17-19mpg DC 6spd
