Just an inquiry because I haven't located a thread on this. I was wondering if anyone has installed the ARB Locker on their non-TRD Tacoma. How is it? How well does it work? Difficulty to install? And all the other normal questions.

    Thanks in advance

There is ARB information everywhere!! And yes...lots of people have them. Did you use the search button in the upper top blue bar?

I had two of them in my Jeep. They are AWESOME!!

ARB's are expensive and are not something you can install yourself. It should be installed by a professional who's experienced with installing gears & locker.
Sure - anyone can learn how to do it, but if its not installed properly...your investment could be destroyed in a matter of time.

Along with the ARB (which replaces the entire differential carrier), you have to buy gears (ring & pinion), and an air supply to operate the locker. Installing the ARB requires setting up ring & pinion gears - again, should be done professionally.

If you think you'll need to use it on extreme offroading trails....and you can afford to do it - then go 4 it. Otherwise -think long & hard whether or not you actually need it. It'll cost you $1000 and more to have it all done.

Everyone who has one loves it when the use it. As long as you size it correctly you should be fine.
As far at the install- It is a difficult install to rebuild gears and set the internals- but if you know how to do that (which means you are really good with cars) you'll be able to manage it. I think it requires some special tools too....

    A few bolts are different.
being in VA you should absolutly call East Coast Gear Supply and talk with Chase. Thay will be the very best at this and can do a 3rd memeber core swap with the ARB and R&P gears already installed. http://eastcoastgearsupply.com/

I'm quite handy with a wrench and I'd never attempt to install an ARB. It takes many special tools, specific tolerances, etc. The "lunch box" lockers and spools can be installed by a good shade tree mechanic. ARB is not one of those.

Other than that, the only complaint I've ever heard about ARB lockers is the price.
