Rear Diff??

Hey guys. The book says it holds 2.5 quarts ( i read it after the fact). Drained diff and was filling it up, figured you just filled it up till it started to run out of fill hole or is this incorrect? I just put 3 quarts into but the book says 2.5. At 3 its still not running out of fill hole yet but its close. Did i mess up?? Please help, its sittin in garage now, Thanks!

 

Yeah youre fine just make sure if you have the LSD you add the LSD additive

So do i want to keep filling till it comes out of the fill hole?

 

I didn't. I think I put more in than what came out a (coffe can amount)
When I was filling it. Some would come out and go back in to the tube so then I would wait for the oil to go down the length of the axle then I just started again.

 

Fill till it starts to spill out have the plug ready give it a few extra pumps and cap it off.Good to goAnd i hope your the truck is level!

 

Its an 06 4 door TRD off road. And i guess i am going to just fill it till it spills out. Also is there a write up on how to get to the front?

 

So just leave it with what i have in it now? You dont fill it till it poors out?. Thsi toyota is going to kill me. Unlike any truck i have owned or worked on before. And to get to the front do you need to drop the skid?? Also how much does the front hold?

doesn't the book say 3.57Q for the rear?
I just put a TRD OR rear on mine and it took 3.5, but it got drained and the axles were taken out so it drained even more.

 

Good question? Still not sure if i want to leave it at 3 or take it till it comes out. Thinkin from the looks of how full it is 3.5 would fill it all the way. And on the front. I took the skid off and is it the hex bolt on the driver side half way up? So the front you got to pump out then right??

 

What do i have? A 5 lug which takes 3.5 or does mine just take 3? Think i put just over 3 quarts into it

 

How many lug nuts per wheel? 5 = 5 lugger.

 

My owner's manual says 3.0 quarts if I remember correctly. When I did mine, I had three quarts plus the 8 oz tube of LSD additive. I figured that would be plenty. I put in all of that, and it still wasn't coming out the fill hole. I looked in with a flashlight and saw it was very close, so I figured that was good enough.

One note though, and someone already said it, make sure you give it time to flow down the axles. Mine did run out at first, then I let it sit for maybe ten minutes or so, and I was able to put more in.
