Peeling out.. where is the damage done?

I was having a small dispute with a friend that has a new truck, a 06 V6 trd, I know its so easy to peel out (in 2Hi) anyway I was telling him its pretty hard on the rear diff, but didn't know exactly how bad it was. Were talking about peeling out on dry pavement. And peeling out with the brakes on (rear wheels spinning but the truck stays in place)

 

i think it is bad for your brakes, mounts and stuff not exactly sure but i would never do it to my truck even if majority here says that nothing is wrong about it ...

 

It'll smoke the gears in your diff. Particularly one wheel burn outs which make the differential work overtime.

 

If you get the rear hopping ( axel wrap ) it can break stuff.
If it just spins and makes smoke it is just bad for the tires.
Axel wrap is bad as it loads and unloads the driveline and often the large amount of torque happens when the U-Joints are angled more during the wrap and unwrap.

I have seen transmission tailshafts snapped from lack of traction/axel wrap control

 

hurts your bank account when you get a ticket

 

As far as the brake stands go, that torque load has to go somewhere. It's being exerted through your driveline and straining parts until the tires loose traction. Even then its storing more energy in the driveline due to resistance at the tires that's greater than standard driving.

If you're lucky the energy will just be expelled as heat. Unlucky, something will snap.

 

The admiration you will get from everyone around you, due to your obvious respect for and utilization of fine machinery every time you do this will more than make up for any of the negative things mentioned.

 

Doing a burnout with the brakes on... you'll burn up the drums, warp possibly do other damage. If you're just punch'n it hard at a green light or around a corner... it's just eating tires up. The diff can take it with a smile. Hell, I do it every day, more than once a day...

 

I can't think of one good reason why I would ever want to spin my tires. At all.

 

Broke many a transmission and several third members when i was young. Poor spider gears, poor poor spider gears.

 

i did it when i first got my truck..not something i'd do on a regualr basis.

 

i hope your kidding... smoking the tires is only cool if your not trying to smokem. doing it in a truck by standing on the brakes and gas makes you look like a dork. I could roast through 1st and 2nd in my gto before the car started to move, then smoke em halfway through 3rd... never touched the brakes. now thats cool .
