HWY Driving worse????

I have a 2006 DC TRD 4x4 4.0 auto. I baby it and took a trip to St louis in the summer and also winter. I traveled around 70 to75 mph the whole way... Im confused since i get way better gas mileage driving around town than I did on the interstate. very car or truck I've own had opposite results. Anyone else have his problem?? I went rom around18 mpg in town to 15 maybe 16 on hwy.....

 

I recently experienced a significant drop in highway fuel mileage on my wife's Honda CRV. In that isolated case it was due to a very strong head wind. Were you driving into a strong head wind on your trip? If so, that could be an explanation for the drop in mileage.

 

wind, % grade climbs, ect... all factor in. Also, if you're loaded down.. factor that in.

 

i've found the same thing... i believe that the best fuel economy speed for out trucks is around 50-55mph. i got 21 mph once (v6 btw) driving back and forth a couple times on this one road where the speed limit is 50mph. above that or below that, and it starts to drop. so even "going around town", you probably reach speeds of around 50 more than you think. just my .02
