Can't read the clock during the daytime because of the poor lighting. Anyone have any ideas for a solution?

if you peel the face plastic off. it comes off pretty easy. then using 1000 grit you can sand the orange off on the inside surface. then polish it real good to get it clear again. the actual clock underneath is a Vacuum Florescent Display (think 1980s VCR) and glows a pretty bright light green color. Why did toyota use VFDs? I have no idea. the over head temp/compass display is also a VFD.
