I think he's confused between cold starts, and just starting it up and driving it right away. You warm it up via the remote start, drive it once it's warm. It's fine.

Did myself a viper 5902 recently and it's awesome, highly recommended.

xk05 is what I used. Bear in mind they needed to plug it in to some usb jobby and flash it, and that took parts not needed to be put in the truck.

I paid someone local 220$ to put it in. Was done in a couple of hours, with all my extra sensors and crap. They did a good job. Couldnt be happier.

My only gripe - the plastic on the fancy keyfob is soft, scratches easy. Might want to put some screen protector on yours, wish I did mine.

    http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/vehiclewiring/1/yeard/Toyota.html

That has some maps for wiring diagrams - don't expect much out of the viper manuals, theyre pretty thin on actual installation.

i had a 2way alarm+remote start in my old car and my only problem with the keys are the battery life (due to constant alarm/beep/vibrate when buttons are pressed).

do you guys know how long the battery lasts in the newer gen vipers alarms?

I heard the 5902 is way better than the 5901. I'll pop mine on the charger every 5-6 weeks or so. Only takes a few minutes and you're on the road again (har har). The charger port is mini-usb, which is the same as most cellphones these days so you can charge it while you drive too.

My only advice on that remote (I think I already said this) but slap a screen protector on it. Mine already looks like crap.

most people will just run a higher viscosity oil in the winter months, that's what i've always done

I dont know how to lock the key pad. However I did have a problem with my truck starting while the keys were in my pocket so I had them reprogram the remote. Now I have to press the start button twice before it starts. Dont know if this will help. Please let us know if there is a way to lock the remote.

There is. Read your manual, theres an admin section you can get into that enables a lock.

Also higher viscosity oil doesn't make your interior toasty warm.

man, my co worker got her car broke into in the parking lot couple days back... DAMN!!!

anyone knows a decent place to get the VIPER/CLIFFORD 5902 installed in the socal (562) (714) (951).

now i have to pass on the sliders and get the alarm.

as my friend has said it "where will your sliders go if your car is gone!"

I 've had remote starts, 3 total, on my vechiles since 1990. The first one was on my 1989 Bronco ll, when sold it it had 128,00o miles. The second was on a 1997 Explorer I bought to replace the Bronco ll. It had 158,000 miles on it when I bought it. The third was a 1994 Explorer I bought in 2000 to use for work and playing around ( the '97 was our family vechile ). It, the 1994 had 110,00 mile when I sold it. The first mod I had installed in mt 2010 Taco was a REMOTE START. All in all I never ran into a problem that was caused by the remote start.

I will give this bit of advise, after you start the and you get in it and its nice and roasty toasty hot remember that the engine maybe warm and up to operating temperture but most of your fluids ie tranny, transfer case, wheel bearing grease and so forth are not! What I usually do is drive at a minimum speed between 10 and 15 mph for a few minutes to give all my fluids and metals to warm up before driving above 25 mph or highway speeds.

I hope this helps ............ Joe

Just curious, if I unhook my battery after I have my viper 5902 alarm installed, will that effect it at all? I don't have a backup battery, and I know my stock battery is due for replacement soon. I just don't want to have the alarm system reset, or not work the same way if I have to unhook anything when I get a new battery.

As long as you start it up and let it warm up for a few minutes before driving off you'll be fine.
I usually let the key sit at "Acc" for maybe 30 second before cranking it to let the fuel pump get primed...more peace of mind than anything.

I always let my truck warm up until the needle starts to move and I usually won't take off until the needle is above the lowest mark...I'm OCD though.
