A/C on with Defrost

Yeah when you switch from floor vent to either floor/defrost or defrost mode even with the AC off your tach will jump up about 150 RPM

Just another one of the features I wish the engineers would not have decided we needed.
Ummmmmmmmmm that and the dozen or so cup holders our trucks now seem to need

 

Haha! Got yah. Now if you do this mod you can still turn on the A/C when its in defrost mode right by just hitting the A/C button?

 

That's right. It gives you control over when the AC comes on.

I'm just curious - how much snow did you get? We were supposed to get about 8", but we only got about 3-4. In southern CT.

Haha, oh okay. I haven't gotten to it yet neither. Painted my skid plate last night and just put it back on a few hours ago.

How long did it take you? I need to go out and do this pretty soon.

 

5 min.... seriously .... it was THAT easy.

I used a small jewelry screwdriver approx an 1/8" to gently pry up the white thingy, there's a little notch to start in. Then used the screwdriver to force out the green wire through the hole the white thing left. Tape, reinstall the white thing, install, done!

 

Cool! I'm going to have to look it up and do it. Hey so where is the servo located? I can't tell by those pics?

this all happens in the glove box, The connector is the only one to the left of the cabin filter.

p.s. I changed my cabin filter with a cut up piece from a home furnace filter. Been doing that for a few years with my vehicles.

 

The pictures are taken sitting in the passenger seat looking 45° to the left, into the opening left by removing the glovebox door.
I'd say as soon as you remove the glovebox, you'll see it. If uncertain, just check the additional color wires. Red, Green, Green/stripe, White.

The unit that uses electrical current to provide actuation for various mechanical systems such as the steering of a R/C car, the flaps on a plane, the rudder of a boat or the defroster vent on a 2005+ Toyota Tacoma.

It's just the term the Factory Service Manual used to describe it, so I just used it. Sorry for the confusion.

no I was actually calling myself dumb for not knowing what a servo was.
CountryBoy then explained it to me and now I get it.

 

I think it's just not full-on AC if that makes sense... *shrug* My 98 Corolla does the same thing. AC comes on partially to help defog windows on a humid day when you switch to windshield only mode. Truck does it in both windshield modes instead of 1 unfortunately. I would think if it came on fully (and cycled enough to cool the air like when you push the AC button) the light would come on.
