My brother-in-law recently passed away and my sister needs to sell his 2009 Tacoma. It is a base 2009 2WD BSP Regular cab 5 lug Automatic with less than 7000 miles. She said the payoff on the truck is $16,500. What do you guys think? Can she get anywhere near that? What do you think it's worth?

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks very much.

Look on eBay and Kelly Blue Book. Sounds about right though.

    So sorry for her loss

    Per KBB.com

Trade-in is $14,875 if you wanted to take it to a dealer like Carmax. The private party value is $16,200 to $17,200 if you sell it yourself.

    Sorry for the loss

Thanks. I looked at the KBB values and thought they might be a little inflated. But, after your comments, maybe she can get payoff or close to it. It is financed through Toyota, so I'm sure getting them to release the Lien will be fun. Thanks for the comments on my sister's loss. He was only 35 and died from colon cancer. Cancer sucks.

Invoice for a reg automatic 2010 is about $16,000 and MSRP is $17,000. I think asking $16,000-16,500 to start but if it were me I'd be happy with $15,000-15,500. Don’t forget the buyer still has to pay sales tax on top of the sales price.

I think a friend of mine got his for about $16,000 out the door brand new. KBB price is always high, paying KBB price is like paying full price which most dont like to do.

sorry to hear it, i have heard of people that are getting deployed out of the US being able to "turn" the vehicle back into the dealer and they just give you what you owe on it. Due to the fact that he died she maybe able to do something similar.

I thought of that too, but unfortunately it is in both of their names. I am tossing around the idea of buying the truck just to take it off her hands. I don't need it at all, but it would also have some sentimental value, being my brother-in-law's old truck.
