Ok, someone answer this question for me.

Why only have the beadlock on the outside of the rim?

I mean the inner bead can succomb to the same issues as the outer.

Good question. To my knowledge the higher sidewall force is on the outside of the tire - Like sliding into a rock on the side of the trail the truck will rotate more on that point since the leverage of the truck. One solution that I am considering are these:

I believe it is not because the companies wont try to get DOT approved but that when you have a blowout on the Interstate with a normal rim the tire comes off eventually and stops but with a Bead Lock the tire stays attached and would cause a lot more damage flapping around not to mention the pieces of debris that would fly off an hit other drivers. This could make for a big mess and plenty of lawsuits. that is the real reason.

As for the Beadlocks if you get real ones I thought it was really up to your state but i dont know if any actually say they are legal anyways, however combine the fact that there is so many faux beadlocks out there on the road because it a fad right now and the fact that anyone who would pull you over would either not know what they are or be able to tell the difference...you should be fine.

You shouldnt be getting them any way unless you do 50% of your driving or greater off road. IMO anyways.

run flats arent the way to go if you ever plan on airing down to really a low PSI. you will only beable to go so far. we use them in our LAVs. they are for when a tire blows our the bead ALREADY pops then you will still be able to drive your vehicle somewhere close to fix it and not harm your rim.

Edit: hahaha just noticed that those arent run flats... explain those things to me HBMurphy????

Thanks but dont get me wrong I will be wanting a set myself in the future as well but thought i would wait till when i get home and can devote my truck to wheeling:) I personally think they are a must if your heading into the snow or messing with rocks. until you get them you will always be "taking it easy"

i edited that last post...what are those things again????...

I know how they work, I was just questioning why not on the other lip of the rim as well.

Yeah, just did a run with a couple of other guys and we lost two beads - sliding in snow - the other guy was in a preRunner and still had 40 psi in his front tires! We had to help him up a couple of parts but he didn't suffer the same fate.

Would your CO let us borrow a couple of LAVs?

The Hutchinsons are about the only DOT beadlocks you can get...

And they take like 4 months to get. freeze on ttora and in the local club has ordered them and they should come soon. it's like $470 each wheel!
