I don't think you'll be able to get a tundra for a while.

i have been around diesels for quite some time and yes there are some that have gremlins and they are expensive to fix but ive seen way more diesels that give less problems than regular gassers.. hands down would trade in my taco right now for a cummins. its like all cars though, sometimes you get a really crappy one

There is a lot of undeserved hate. Due to current emissions standards, yes, most modern diesel pickups do not have the reliability and mileage they used to show.

90's Cummins Rams and 7.3L Ford PSDs were champs that turned better mileage than many Tacomas on this site and yet could pull a house off it's foundation. There are many still rolling out there with 300k+ on the clock.

Glad it worked out for you. I've owned numerous For cars and trucks, I guess I was a "Ford guy", and every one of them except my '99 Explorer (5.0 V8) were garbage.

There, now your anecdotal story has been cancelled out.

Well, by far the Tacoma was the best most reliable truck I've ever owned. Like i've said in the past, It's seen more airtime then I can remember and held strong right through.
The Ford I picked up is a 2008, 6.4ltr. I do however have the kit for 600+hp and 20 mpg, just have to get it installed now. Apparantly it will take a corvette C6 in the quarter mile. The only downfall I ever had issues with was peeling my body out of the drivers seat. Not exactly big guy friendly!
Anyway, Tacomaworld has been a great site for me when I had questions and really appreciate all of the feedback in the past.

Till next time... Take care all!

Ohh and I have an un-used URD MAF with wire harness kit that I kinda took with the trade in. If anyone wants to make me an offer on it i'll gladly pass it on (It's in Alberta, Canada).

You know as a mechanic, and a diesel mechanic to boot. The Powerstroke is a great engine. the 7.3's were great! But due to emmissions they had to go, I loved mine! I rolled 200k on mine and then sold it.. Great truck! the early 6.0s had some issues, not all of them. 6.0's from late 05 and on are good trucks! We pull a 13000# boat around all the time with ours and it is flawless! the 6.4 has also proven to be a great engine, but I am glad to see that Ford is finally building in house diesels! The 6.7 ltr will be in my wish list! And the Ford V10's are arguably one of the best motors ever made! especially after they changed the valves in the heads after 2003... Great Motor!

Cummins are awesome! with the exception of there new 6.7.. Not alot of good feedback with that truck.

Out of the Big 3, Ford is the way of the future. Mark my words...

That is a big jump from a compact v6 p/u to a 350 diesel. Did you purchase a large boat or trailer or something?
