I am tired of stealerships!

I have contacted a couple of local Toyota stealerships and they tell me that the rear leaf spring TSB for my 09 taco will make it ride horribly. Can anyone comment on how there truck rides before and after. I would like to make mine ride smoother if I can. But I do also relize it's a truck.

 

It rides stiffer, but not "horribly."

 

To be honest, I didnt really notice much difference at all. I can feel that it is different, but 'horrible' is not the word I would use. Firm would probably be a better word. It always amazes me that dealerships try talking people out of doing work that warranty pays for.

 

it isn't bad like the others have said. If you want it done, tell the stealer to order the kit, and that you don't want their opinion. It does help out with a load in the bed as well

 

It's not their place to try to get out of doing it by telling you that it'll ride horribly. Tell them that you like a horrible-riding truck and you want the TSB done. Mine didn't make it ride horribly. I don't notice it at all now... and it was only different enough for me to think about for about 2 weeks. Even then, it was a LONG way from 'horrible.'

 

I work in the service/parts dept of a Chevy dealer and GM is the same way. If a dealer processes too many warranty claims, they catch the wrath of the manufacturer. That's probably the only reason they would turn down work. I could be wrong. I've never worked for a Toyota dealer.

 

I could understand that. Given recent developments of the accellerator pedal issue, they may be trying to save money where they can.

I work as a service advisor for a low volume exotic car dealer. We will take all the warranty work we can get, especially right now.

 

I liked the way my Tacoma rode after the Leaf TSB. It seemed firmer in corners. but after time it loosened up.

And right now Toyota is hurting. My friend has been looking at Tacoma's for a couple months now. But every dealer he went to would hardly budge. He is now working to finalize a deal on a Frontier. sticker is $27,000 v-6 4x4auto, nav system many other options.

 

Everything is a trade-off. You don't get the rated load capacity without losing some ride compliance. You don't get a cushy ride and the ability to load 1000lbs in the bed without slamming into the bump stops. Something's gotta give.

IMHO the spring TSB does give a harsher ride. I notice almost every bump on the road now, but it also removes much of the "floaty" feel that the old springs gave. I am fine with the ride since I know it's all an engineering trade-off,,, unless you get adaptive springs and shocks that is (just add $10k to the cost now....), ability to carry the rated load <-> soft ride, pick one.

Toyota has to tell you about the ride, as it's documented in the TSB. If they don't they set themselves up for complaints that customers weren't told about what they're giving up. More CYA.

 

I have not noticed any thing different since getting it done. I do need to get the tranny TSB done because it jumps when turning.

 

I think they are scripted to say that in hopes of talking you out of it. I didn't even notice a difference in the ride.

It does give the truck a slightly stiffer ride but, as others have already posted, it's nowhere near horrible.

What I noticed the most was that the truck corners better and no longer sags when carrying moderate loads.

 

They feed me that line too. Must be in the script! I thought it rode more like a truck after the TSB. Which is what I bought.

 

Before TSB it rides like a mini van, very nice. Post TSB it rides like a truck/SUV.

 

I dont notice a difference. Im not saying there is not one, just that I cant tell. I am glad I did it.

 

Mine corners better. Other than that, I noticed no real change in the ride. I like the looks of the truck after the new springs.

 

I dont notice hardly any difference. This truck does not ride harsh. I have a an older f350 also that thing rides rough.

 

Per the TSB the dealership service advisor is requested to inform the customer that the ride will be noticeably stiffer. Obviously, stiffer must mean "horribly" to the service advisor which isn't the correct terminology. Once the TSB is performed there is no going back without the customer incurring the cost so that is the reasoning for explaining that the ride will change.

 

I had the TSB done a few months ago and I would describe the ride as much improved. The best word used to describe it is firm. I do feel the bumps more but that lets me know it's a pickup truck I bought!
