Access Cab Dog Platform UDPATE (pics)

Here is mine, also not as finished looking as some of the others, but I am happy with how it works. I went with the tan paint to match the seats and the "TACOMA" on the carpet floor mats! Thanks for the idea!

 

I was looking to build something to fill in the area in front of the seats and found this thread. It led me to the decision to give the back of my Taco to the dog. Last night I removed the seats and headrests and took some measurements. Hopefully this weekend I will build the platform and I will definitely put pictures up when I do. Here is the cab without seats and headrests.

 

My access cab might be different but I just pull the seats up like when trying to get into the storage under them but just flip them all the way down an it creates a flat platform that I just put a pet blanket down on. I have an 08 so there's no center console. I thought they were all like this??

 

My 65lbs lab mix is too big to fit on the seat part, and if the seats are down then its difficult for him to lay on the floor. I had been folding his bed in half to try to fill in the floor part, but he doesn't like that method.

 

Andrew to help my collie I removed the rear jumpseats and the center console thing from the rear cab section.

I think building the shelf directly over the storage bins is the way to go. I may do this as well. Great photos and write ups in this thread.

My dog loads w a ramp so resting it on the shelf is no different than doing it on the door sill.

Got off work a little early today and finished the fabrication of my access cab platform. I will buy carpeting Monday and post more pictures once it is complete.

Good work. I did something similar. Also, I got some rubbermaid bins to make use of the extra space under the platform and behind the seats. Great spot for tools and crap.

Nice job! I did something similar in that I also took out the seats and headrest to get the lowest and largest platform possible.

 

Looks good; your dog looks pretty happy with it. I got rid of the useless back seats to make the platform as low as possible too.

Hard to see night picture the day it was done


First I removed the headrest and seat bottoms but left the seat belt stuff intact.

I used a cut to size piece of wood, added legs, used 3M spray adhesive to attach carpeting foam to wood then stapled automotive carpet sourced from local parts store to underside of wood. Cut the foam and carpet to size and tucked in to edges to make a clean look.

 

Thanks to all on this thread for the ideas on making a better place for my dog to ride. Bubbles loves having more space. I cut some plywood, added legs with piano hinges and feet. Easy in, easy out. Thanks again!

Sorry for the late reply; I must not be subscribed to this thread anymore.

Anyway, I made the drawers and casework. Since I didn't want big gaps for dog paws to fall through, and the longest side to side dimension is about 55", I started with a full 4'x8' sheet of multi-ply. All the case, drawer, and reinforcing parts used most of the sheet. Also needed a couple scraps of 1/4" for the drawer bottoms, and some 3/4" poplar for the fronts.
