1st oil change question...

Hi all. First post... recently got an '06 tacoma! I just did my first oil change. Truck is a 2.7L 4x4. The manual calls for 6.1 quarts of oil with a filter change. I put in just under 6 quarts and I'm at the high mark on the dipstick. Is this okay? Is it likely that all of the oil didn't drain out? Are you guys able to get the full 6.1 quarts in? Thanks for the help!

i put in 6 quarts of amsoil 0-20w and mine is still on the high side 3k miles later

 

You're probably right in thinking you didn't get every drop of the old oil out. +/- .1 quarts (3.2 ounces) won't bother your truck.

did u run it before u checked? start it let it run then shut it down and let it sit. the oil filter holds some oil if u just changed it added oil and checked it without running it your level will be a little high.

 

I use 6 quarts and call it good. My dealer told me 5.5 was the amount I was supposed to use, but I didn't like having the 1/2 quart leftover, and the manual calls for 6.1, so I just use 6 and it works fine.

Those manuals are (obviously) not accurate on many things. My OM calls for 2.3 quarts of ATF when doing a drain and refill, but 4 quarts came out when I drained it Go figure....
