WOW! That's probably why I've heard many with issues with people having engine troubles on the drivers side. That's very scary since I'm URD MKII blown.

Is the oil pump hard to change? Maybe this should be part of my 50 or 60K maintenance? I'd rather pay for parts and spend an afternoon doing this than risk having to buy a new motor down the road.

Bud, thats exactly how it sounded. Yours sounds a little louder than mine did though. Like yours, the sound could not be heard at idle. Give it just a little juice and it squealed.
When I first heard my truck make the saound, I was on my way to work. I stopped at the dealership. They thought it was bad pulley or slipping drive belt. i agreed with them and had them replace the idler pulley and belt.
Picked up my truck later that day. Within about 10 minutes of driving it, the sound was back and louder. Still not as loud as yours, but getting worse.
In total, I probably only drove around 30 miles from the time I first heard the noise. If you've been driving longer, and your issue is the same oil pump issue, things should really be starting to cook in the valve train on the left side of your engine.
How long have you been driving it like this? How many miles on your truck?

How does an oil pump stop working in a way that prevents lubrication to half the engine? It just seems like clogged oil passages. I'm not doubting anyone's finding just thinking out loud.

    fml..

My truck did it for maybe 100 or so miles and then out of the blue it stopped just as randomly as it started. My truck now has 56K miles on it. This was maybe two weeks ago.

Looks like I'll be trading my truck in if this is the case, because I can't afford that, at all. I can barely afford gas right now...

The noise stopped for me about a day after getting an oil change as well.

    Nothing yet, brand new!
I've recently noticed a pulley/belt noise on my truck. I have 90k miles on it. I'm going to take a long hard look at this. If it turns out other than a pulley then I'm ditching it. I don't have the time to mess around with internal engine repairs. That is why I bought a Toyota to begin with. :(

The more time goes on, the more its looking like I'll end up being a one-time Toyota customer. What a crock of shit. I hope the OP and 05TacoTRD report this as a possible vehicle defect to NHTSA or other government agency, not just Toyota.

^x2. If more and more people have this faulty oil pump problem im going to talk to my parents and see if I can trade in my truck for an 04 Taco instead. Im tired of all these little BS problem's happeing on the 2nd gen's. I have got lucky I guess? I havent had any problem's (knock on wood) but im, also only at 27k. I guess that Toyota really doesnt make them like they use to.. :frusty::censored:

Believe me, if this is the issue my trucks having, there will be fire and brimstone.

According to Toyota, the lubrication continued, oil pump was still moving oil, just not enough was making the entire trip. They said the left side valve train was the last stop on its journey back to the pan.

Nothing like driving a $30k truck and wondering if the frame is going to rot and the engine is going to fry. Dare I ask "what next?"

Sigh. God I hope this isn't whats going on with my truck.

I'm gonna clean my truck up and take it to Toyota next week. Can't afford to drive the damn thing at all until Saturday when I go to work... Today was gonna be a day spend trying to find a second job because I can't support myself with my current one.

If Toyota refuses to fix it, I will sell it. Not sure what I'll get after that. Could use something more gas efficient but I just bought both me and the fiance new bikes so I kind of want a truck. Perhaps another Taco or a Tundra...

Honestly, I'm pretty upset right now. I've been in an all Toyota family for the last 7 years, and don't want a different truck. This was my dream truck, I really hate to see it have problems. Especially after I've been praising Toyota and its reliability for years... Hell, I bought a Tacoma because they have a reputation for being indestructible.
