I recently put Billy 5100s all the way around and set the fronts at 2.5". I got ATX Artillary rims. From looking up on this site I found that the backspacing of these rims should work with 285s. I needed to remove my front fender flares to keep them from rubbing. Any ideas of what to do, I do not want to put wheel spacers on. If anybody else went through this id like to hear some opinions and see some pictures.

Welcome to TW! What is the backspacing and offset of the rims? Also, you'll need to trim some of the fender and wheel well lining to fit 285s. It shouldn't be too much trimming and nothing that a dremel with cutoff wheel couldn't handle. That's how I did mine.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
You had to remove the fender flares?

the backspacing is 4.5". i have a trd sport and the front fender flares would rub when the wheels were turned. tire shop said they would cut them for me but i thought if i was going to cut them id do it myself and told them just to remove them. these were my options I was thinking about:

-leave front flares off (it dont look to bad this way)
-cut the flares (worried about them "flopping in the breeze" with less support)
-get different flares (might still have same problem after spending the money)
-put on a body lift (I kinda like the stance of the truck now not to sure on how it would look another 3" taller)

Well, body lifts aren't the greatest option. You'll learn that there are probably about a 100 other members (probably more) who run the 285 tire and we all had to slightly cut our fenders. It doesn't make them any weaker, and unless you own a Tacoma or know what the inner fenders look like, nobody can even tell that you cut them. Especially if you do a clean job.

can you post a pic please?

i have 33x12.5 r 17 w 4.5 in backspacing and all i had to do was trim the inside fender plastic.

i have 3 inches of lift but with the bigger tire i assume its close to the same ratio as ur 2.5 in lift with 285/75/r16

even offroading i didnt have that much rubbing. i will have to cut the body mount at some point but even now there is on;y a little bit of rubbing in reverse

Are you talking about fender flares or mud flaps. Most people have to remove mudflaps, but I have never seen anything about fender flares. Some plastic in the wheel wells have to be trimmed as well. I try and find the link.

agree. found some pics of my trim job, but you won't have to cut nearly as much since you're running 285's. i have 305's. there's no reason to look for different fender flares, just trim what you need to

if you're worried about the fender insert flapping around, just brace it to the frame like this

Ok so wait. i think you are confusing the inner fender plastic with the fender flare (the piece on the outdise of the fender painted the same color as your truck probably)

if you removed the inner fender plasitic piece..then yea just trim it down and put it back in. hopefully they save the clips and screws for you
