more pep from 2.7

looking for wats to get more out of my 2.7. bogs down going from 1st to2nd on a hill. it's rather sluggish overall. my wifes 04 was pepy sob tbought this would be the same. i heard a throttlebody spacer would help, would this void my warrenty? anybody have any luck getting more out of thier 2.7? its a 4x4 and gets pretty decent mileage on logging roads during hunting season.

 

You can try running premium fuel, that will also give you a few more HP, just be sure to disconnect the battery for a few hours so the ECM computer and knock sensor can adjust to the higher octane. Some say it takes several tankfuls for the ECM to fully adjust to higher octane fuel. Oh yeah you might want to write down the radio presets so any other drivers don't get peeved after the battery disconnect.

 

OK I just checked my owner's manual and... you are correct. The V6 (1GR-FE) provides increased performance with the use of premium fuel, but there is no such statement concerning the 4cyl (2TR-FE). Thanks for setting me straight, sorry to the OP for the misleading statement.

 

CAI and headers...pretty much all you can do right now without goin custom turbo lol

or regear...the 1st and 2nd gear are super far apart too

 

its really bad with a 2.7 in 4x4hi cause theres not enough power...need cai and header and maybe chop the exhaust before the rear axle after repiping to 2.5"

 

i tried looking for a cai when i first got my 09 but could'ntfind one for the 2.7. im not looking for a rocket, just enough to not lugg it all the time. also looking for best bang for $

 

i dont think a cai will do shit, get a doug thorley header for it with a nice muffler and a drop in air filter. my biggest power mod was the header (in the seat feeling)

oh and dont waste your money on a urd maf calibrator either, someone did it and said it was a waste of $250

 

I've seen other threads that removing the secondary air filter would help. I can tell you that it sure did help mine out.

 

Just regear... If u want more power from 2-3 gear just gear to like a 4.10 but say bye to ur top end ... I wend 4.56 and It was quick but I also have 33s on the poor 2.7 lol

 

where did you buy all the parts and gears for you 4.56's? Thats what i want to go with but i have no clue what buy to change my gearing!

 

evry thing i've heard makes me lean twards the cai ? header and larger exaust, wich makes me wonder about the cat. creating a bottle neck at that point. what's the average cost and results . i'm not a fann of the gear change (hwy driving)

 

CAI's only slightly help with MPG, trust me i have one and wasnt worth it imo. i have an AFE.

also didnt know you could get a throttle body spacer for the 2.7. i was looking a while back and didnt find any.

 

any tips on the thorley headers

the cai helped a little in my old 97 4-runner 3.4l. aheader & high flow & cai realy helped my 94 integra gsr. actualy made a rocket out of it
