I just permanently bypassed the clutch cancel button on my 98 Corolla years ago. Metal staple bent in to a small U shoved into the pins on the plug that comes off the button under the clutch, and black taped over it. :D

I thought about that, but I don't think the wife would get it if she drovve the truck.... :frusty:

Where's the switch on the clutch at? I wonder if I could get the Toyota switch and just rig it up... Anyone who's pulled the switch panel off happen to take a pic of how many wires go to that switch?

The staple doesn't get hot? Staples don't conduct electricity well...

The best method for starting on a hill/obstacle is proper clutch operation: Let up on the clutch pedal while holding the brake, while the clutch is partially engaged(which is now holding the truck, with a drop in RPM evident), let off the brake and accelerate while engaging the clutch completely.
Practice is necessary to perform this in pressure situations accurately. Using the parking brake is a poor practice and will not hold you on an obstacle(it is also slow to release=stall). The clutch cancel will work, but is very hard on the starter. It will usually require you to be in 4lo/1st gear to start out on an obstacle, and will not be strong enough to keep the engine running on steep/large obstacles.
I use it when I'm too lazy to push in the clutch...

Why wouldn't they conduct well? They're metal and only need to conduct a small amount of voltage for a few seconds while the engine was starting.

If you're stuck in a bowl or on a steep incline and there's no other way out aside from revving the engine and slipping the clutch, it's a lot cheaper and easier to replace a starter than it is a clutch.

When properly excecuted, clutch slippage is momentary. When poorly done, overheating, smoking, and failure can be the result.
The starter should be a last resort, not a go-to.

this has been covered before in detail.

however useful it maybe if your stuck i don't think i would ever rely on my starter to move my truck out of anything that has that much suction like mud or force against it like going up a hill. wearing out your starter is one thing breaking it is another that is a sure fire way to leave you stranded and i can see it happening rather quickly in the situations described above.

this is why you buy a winch imo, with that being said i use mine everytime i start my truck i make sure its in neutral i insert the key hit the button and fire her up never had a problem in 2 years.

toyota would not have put it there if it was only supposed to be used in certain circumstances because in general most floks never touch the owners manual even if they have them so there would be instances of them breaking constantly if that was case.

on a side note i have never heard of the clutch start cancel button being directly attributed to a malfunction or breakage of any kind when being used in either everyday life such as starting your truck constantly with it or using it to quote get unstuck so.

but, for me personally to use it for the purpose of getting out of a mud pit or up a steep hill i would have had to exhaust every single option winch being pulled out or using my head and digging and using a high lift just my .02 take it or leave it.

I love my switch....use it all the time to start the truck without having to get in....especially for warm up in the winter!!

Just make sure you are out of gear before turning the key if you are not in the truck!!!

I have never tried it in a situation where I am stuck....yet!!

I offer more compelling evidence backing my opinion. You? Smart-ass BS. Blue sky is an illusion of swamp gas coming out of Uranus:p

I'm in the use it in winter crowd. Start it up and go clear the snow/ice. As for the few posts on potential damage I agree it will not do anything. It is just an electrical component that bypasses the lower clutch switch. If you are in neutral there is no difference to anything mechanical.

I'd really have to be up the creek without a paddle to limp the truck on the starter, but it is nice to have the option.
