I am in negotiations with a dealer on a new Tacoma to replace my 2008.

I want to know what you guys think of the price they are quoting me and if you got a better price.

Specs: 2010 Tacoma 4x4 Double Cab Short Bed TRD Sport w/ tow package:
    MSRP: 31,089
They are offering it to me for: 28,438

    What do you guys think?

That's like "invoice" or close to it.

Hmmmmm, sounds like they are not hungry enough......

My 08 DC Sport had the same MSRP, and I got mine for $26,900 in April of 08.

Unless they have changed the packages, the towing package should be standard with the Sport package, so don't let them charge you for that.

If you know someone that subscribes to Comsumer Reports, you can pay about $14 for a report that shows the actual price the dealers pay the manufacturers for the vehicles. That way you know if you're getting a good deal.

Heck, if you don't know anyone that has Consumer Reports, sign up on line yourself. A subcription is only about $30 per year. If that helps you save a few thousand dollars, it's money well spent. :)

I assume that has the JBL package and an automatic right? Personally, I'd wait until maybe March when you start seeing factory rebates.

BS. Don't do it. Go online and get quotes from the same dealership along with others around.

I got mine a month ago for 28,400. Bay Area, CA. So that sounds like a good deal to me. I had a friend who used to work at toyota help with my negotiations.

10' Mag Gray, SR5 JBL w/BT, 4x4, DC, Short Bed, tow pkg, floor mats.

Sticker on my TRD Sport, 4x4, DC, LB was $31,271. I used the Costco buy program and paid invoice which was $29,048. They showed me the invoice sheet but I still believe true invoice is much lower. Hope this helps with your decision.

Mine's an 09 but the prices from 09 to 10 didn't change much if at all. MSRP was $31.1xxK and bought for $27350 after $1K rebate and minus $400 tax credit so $26950. DC OR jbl 4x4 6spd. The automatic sport was like a $200 difference.

    Purchased March of 2009.

I would say it depends on the financing they're offering you.

    hi guys-
looking at a very similar truck. 4x4 DC short bed, TRD sport, tow package, auto. MSRP is $31,305. Dealer offers it to me for $30,234. Invoice is $28,750.

I was thinking of asking inventory price out the door (using the $750 rebate in lieu of the 3.9%/60 months APR promo in the southeast-taxes are 3%, tag etc $150)

    In other words $28,750 - rebate + taxes = $28,750 offer

Think I should expect a lower OTD price?

    Here is also a consideration:
I owe $1200 from what they will give me for my trade and what's due. If they buy it for $12,163, I will only have to pay the difference in taxes from one car to the next.

    new car $28,750*3%=$863
    trade in value $12,163*3%=$365

I only pay $498 in taxes, thus saving me $

So, please give me your two cents. How should I play it so they handle my trade and save me a trip to carmax and save on taxes? Should I say $28,750 out the door and you guys eat my $1200 loss? That seems like a ton under invoice. I suck with numbers so any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

I really don't think they will budge much at invoice. There is a dealer hold back which is only like $200-400 and some might even give you that discount but most won't.

Since you're asking for invoice, they will give you less on your trade. They will play the numbers game. If the give you invoice, don't be surprise for them to offer you $1500 less for your trade. Now you're back to $30K for their truck. ($28,750 + $1500 less for your trade). Besides, invoice is not an even number so $28,750 is not invoice. It would be something like $28, 324 or something. Ask to see the invoice and get quotes from other dealers. Don't tell them you have a trade until you come to an agreement for the truck price. Don't tell them what you want your monthly to be. The price of the truck and finacing determines your monthly.

Sticker on mine was 31,750 and I ended up getting mine for $29,000. Sounds like a fair price for it.

Automatics are $1000 more than manual trans, and the cost increase from 2009-2010 was about $300.
I paid around 28,699 for my 2010 Acc Cab, TRD Sport 4x4, 4.0v6 Auto w tow. with no money down. I financed through my credit union after dealer financing kept trying to give the best APR, First they said 4.5%, then 3.9%, then 3.75. My credit union said the could do 2.5%! because of my good credit rating.
i felt pretty good about it. Just barely over invoice.

Im close to closing the deal. 28,400 fully loaded TRD Sport w/tow and upgraded audio.
They are giving me 18.600 for my current 08 Tacoma access cab 4x4 which is more then I owe.
Rate is 4.25 for 72 mo which is real good.
$450 a month.. I am not paying $405. Its almost a done deal
