first, my #1 pet peeve with these effing automotive designers is they seem to pay NO attention to how a front license plate mounts!! shame shame shame!

now that i've ranted, i got my plates today. are you telling me the front one mounts with two top screws, goes over the split in the bumper and then the bottom just rubs on the lower part of my painted bumper for the rest of my life? the lower license plate holes don't even reach to a flat part of the lower bumper section.

i'd like to fab up something that attaches to the skid plate, or maybe there is something in the aftermarket?

    i have a Silver, 2010 SPORT

    see ya

Others don't like this either, including myself. You can attach some thin foam padding to the back side, that you can get at your local hobby shop, or other hardware places. This should help on paint rub. And be careful if you put it somewhere else; make sure It's visible from side to side, front, and over. Hope that helps, have a good one.

^^^^ That would be good for Xrunners but I would prefer skid plate mounting or hangin it off the bottom of a lightbar on prerunner or 4wd.

I noticed that about the front plate right off ( actually a month or so later ). Bottom of plate already wore thru paint to plastic. I never thought I would say this but thank God for plastic on my truck! Dont have to worry about rust there and can fix something up come spring. NYS requires front license plates. Wish I was back in AZ, they dont require them on front there.

The mount on the blue truck doesn't look bad. It also doesn't look easy to make.

I know in Ohio where my truck is registered you are required to have a front plate. I have had my truck since Nov. 6th 06 and never put a plate on the front. My mom's Camry is the same was and she bought it new in 03 and hasn't ever had a problem with not having a front plate. I guess it just depends on how strick your state is on having a front plate and how much they enforce it.

Right now my front plate (DMV required) has the one-sided sticky foam tape mod :D
I just ordered a front plate bracket (oem tundra part PT413-34070) for $10 to see if it will fit w/ a little modification on my tacoma. I had seen the bracket on a tundra next to a tacoma @ the dealers & think it may possibly work. If not, I'll use it for a picture frame or something. ;)

I just got a "deluxe" plate bracket from autozone that contours and looks ok.
it was only 9 bucks or so.

I dreaded the day the license plates came in the mail. My brother in law with a BMW M3 got 2 citations for not installing his plates even though the car was 2 years old.

I'm installing Ventureshield coating to the bumper, so I'll ask the installer if anything additional is needed for the license plate, perhaps they can double up that area if needed.

But I think a combo of some Ventureshield and thin foam will work for me.

Not required in Mississippi. Good thing because it is a flimsy attachment point on the Tacoma. I honestly think the rear tag mount is cheap and flimsy. My other toyota trucks had better mounting points than this new one. Screws feel like they will strip out before tightening up on the rear mount.

Best thing I can tell you is to get a winch bumper and discard the piece of plastic Toyota passes off as a bumper......
