Front Brake Pad/Rotor Question

Might be a stupid question, but if your truck is in park, will the brake pads rub against the rotor when you rotate the tire? I was changing my front driver tire and when I spun the rotor around, the pads were in contact with the rotor.

When it is in park, what brakes stop the wheels from moving? Thanks.

 

No, it should spin. Even in park. If you press the brake pedal, THEN they wont spin. Even if you set the emergency brake, the fronts will continue to rotate. It only locks the rear.

so if they should spin free, there should be no contact at all. They don't keep the wheel from spinning, but I can hear the contact when I spin the rotor. So what should I do with that? Mechanic?

 

No, the pistons only release far enough to allow the wheels to spin. So, yes, you may hear a slight noise and the rotor spins along the pads.

 

It's just a bit of light brake drag, completely normal.
