The response from my service adviser was that my VIN doesn't qualify it for the recall. Phew!

I think this brake override will be a software upgrade to the ECM. If anyone has any specifics about the implementation of the "new feature", please let us know. I want to know as much as possible about it.

I just spoke with my service rep at Beaverton about the issue because I'm in next week for other items. It will be an update to the software, and you will have the right to opt out. You will need to make this plain every time you go in for anything, however.

Kind of a pain to opt out of SW upgrades, but I'll do so until I hear on the forums what other people with the new SW think. The bad part, is I can't downgrade.

I understand over-reaction/Mob mentality is just human nature, but it's starting to get out of hand.
    Theme song:

The Tacoma has the perfect accelerator, only the mats were an issue. The SW fix is just an over-reaction from a Toyota conference room at 1:30AM.

Thank you for that piece of info.

I'm with you, I may be a late adopter, take the wait and see approach.

I have an idea that it may be possible to downgrade if you make arrangements ahead of time. You may even have to pay for it.

I would provide them a letter of intent which states that if you dislike the software update for any reason, you intend to revert back. Having them disclose any costs associated with downgrading should be agreed to beforehand.

Also, If you intend to decline the software update each time you go to the dealer for service, then print two copies of a document with large type font that states you do not want the software upgrade and place it in a protective sheet cover. Hand one to the service adviser and leave the other on the dashboard each time you visit the dealership.

You will have solid ground to stand on if they fail over that.

this is dumb...i NEVER press the gas pedal and brake pedal at the same time..i have a manual tranny...if i'm starting on a steep hill or something i can use the parking brake and slowly let it off as i give it gas if needed but i really don't even do that...i just let off the clutch and give it more gas...it's a truck not a rally car

They aren't touching my truck with that nonsense. I have yet to have a problem of that sort, and don't expect to.

Now an ABS override I would be happy to get from the dealership.

ABS override would be awesome. Us 4x4 with e-locker have a very easy work around, but a factory solution would be even better!

I don't understand...no offense, but what makes your truck different than all the others? I thought this problem (floor mat, accelerator pedal problem) was across the board for the 2005-2010 Tacoma's. Now their going by VIN numbers for some reason? Can anyone elaborate on this? From what I understand we're included in the original recall notice sent out last year over the floormats.

It could be Toyota hadn't added the TSB to their system before they announced the late night conference room over-reaction everything-biut-the-sink fix-all.

i will just shift in to neutral if i have a problem its not that hard. this is such a stupid idea especially on a truck. this isnt even a real fix they might as well just put a big engine kill switch in the middle of the dash

yesterday on the toyota hearing a chairman suggested that the brake override should be made required to all manufacturers on the future, same thing that happened with tpms

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
    So
    1. No more solid axle because people did rollover after driving their SUV like the passenger car
    2. We have ABS because people could not figure out how to brake with out locking the wheels.
    3. We have TPMS because people can not keep their tires inflated correctly.
    4. We will have brake override because people can not manage floor mats.

    5. Whats next ??
