Hey, I grewup in SoCal. I totally get the lowering and lifting of car and trucks. I am a product of cruising Main Street in Ventura during the early 80's. I can never leave the ride height stock, it is a genetic problem. My only caution to lifted 4x2s is that it won't make it an instant 4x4 because you lift it.

If you are lifting to go offroad then take your lift money and your Prerunner and trade it for a 4x4.

If you want it improve the looks, go for 3".

    I support both options.

Hey guys just my .02: seems to me a lot of prerunner hit it hatder than a lot of the 4x4 drivers here (not saying all) so let's stick with helping the guy out.

I'm a prerunner open diff, I'm lifted up front with camburg spindles and 5100 coilovers. I have the aal in the back with 5100 shocks. Easiest and cheapeast route is the 5100 adjustable front shocks that offer up to 2.5" lift. The most I would go in front is 3 inches otherwise you risk cracking and breaking your shocks and other things. Adding a leaf is the easiest for the rear.

For the front you have to keep in mind when going over 2.5 you might need uca's which are just an extra expense. There's a lot of info on lifting 2wd just do a search! Hope this helps some :)

But to answer the question, no, it's not stupid to lift a 4x2. Do what you want, OP. And to hell with the rest of us.
