    Hello all,

    I have a 2005 Access Cab 4.0 auto TRD Off Road. I just ordered a hitch and wiring harness and now i need to order a trans cooler. I am looking at either B&M, Hayden or my brother runs an Earle's($$) on his Jeep. TRD? how big should I go? any pictures (especially mounting location) or hints/tips would be appreciated.

    I will add that i did a search (here and google) and got minimal results for application specifics

    If you live where it is hot all the time go large
    if you live anywhere that the temps are low at times of the year ( up north ) go moderate or you will take forever to warm up, not operating at proper temp is as bad or worse than operating hot

    I buy my trans coolers at any parts store, alum is alum , copper is copper

    A little more info; The truck spends half the year (winters in Kansas/Colorado) and the other half in the high desert of AZ. With phoenix being peppered in along with towing between aforementioned areas in summer.

    I am leaning towards the B&M 70268 11"X7.5"X0.75" or the 70255 11x5.75x.75 ideas? other choices?

    Looks like a winner.
    I'm not sure about atf being too cool or it affecting performance but every time I've replaced a transmission(90f-250, 96ram2500, 01ram2500) I installed the largest cooler that would fit and never had any trouble with the fluid being too cool or not at operating temp. Al of the trucks had an additional 100k put on the new/rebuilt transmissions with no issues. But then again I live in CA and it never really gets too cold.

    not sure of the factory cooler that comes on the tow models but one similarly sized would be a smart pick in my book, id lean towards slightly bigger but running too cold is a problem from what i have heard

    Even if you do add a big cooler there is nothing stopping you from covering 80% (or similar) in the winter with a piece of cardboard (if you feel redneck enough). I'm sure a thin piece of plastic similar to Plexiglas and a few tie straps wouldn't be too hard to fab up.

    Go bigger than the OEM tow package cooler and mount it somewhere where air will actually flow over it (unlike the OEM). Several tests have been performed by members of other forums with AT temp gauges and the OEM cooler - their results indicate the OEM does very little to cool anything - other than maybe looking cool.

    Dumb question time...

    What are the dimensions/location of the stock cooler? I assume it is on the driver's side in front of the rad like everyone is mounting the aftermarket ones? But, how big is it?

    Where exactly are the fluid feed/return located? Looks like you need to remove the skid plate to access? Did this mod to a '00 Dakota, but now need to add to my '07 Taco.
